These "surprising" losses are no longer one-offers. This is a trend. I don't know how you can just blame the players and think the coaching is not at fault here. 1-8 against teams who don't even belong on the field is an eye opener!

Typical Tomlin Trap game. It's almost as sure as the sun setting in the Western skies.

I think maybe he talks the bad Teams up so much he creates a situation that the players believe they are as good as them ... Then the players listen to the media about how we should handle them with ease and they freeze up....Need to change something that's for sure..

I wish a reporter would press Tomlin for the reason he's incapable of beating the worst teams in the league. I mean really press him, not just 1 question and roll with his "we didn't execute, and committed TO's BS." Not going to change anything, would just like to hear his response.

I see try a change of pace. He makes every bad team sound like the 72 dolphins. Maybe he should just come out and say this team is horrible we should kill them, they have no chance, we are looking onto next week.

I'm thinking with the amount of film etc. they should be watching and prepping for, players should know what they're facing.

Something is clearly amiss. It wasn't just the gameplan. It was the missed tackles. It was the blown coverages. It was the lack of rhythm in every phase of the game.

I honestly believe that these guys get over confident and then they find themselves behind and panic. When these games come up they honestly look like they had a week off in practice, did you look at the routes run in the Jets game? We got a big problem with teams that have a good front 4, the Bucs, Jags, and the Jets were able to get good pressure without having to bring extra guys leaving the rest of the players in coverage, Ramone Foster is the weak link on the interior and when the pressure comes from the middle it doesn't allow time for a play to develop or allow for a screen to work as the ball has to come out way to early. Our short passing game that Haley implemented requires too many of our guys to be perfect at the same time, I've been saying this since the beginning of the season, one missed block and it is disaster which is why we loose to teams were we have to use short passing due to poor o-line play. We all saw what our QB is capable of doing if the pocket is clean or at least some what clean and if it were me I'd replace Foster with Wallace and see if there is a difference because every time he is in it looks as if the line plays better, Foster appears to be the link but maybe I'm seeing it wrong.

yet on the play where he had time to bake a cake back there, he throws into, no pardon me over his receiver and into a sea of green jersey's. it ain't all the o-lines fault. ben as good as he has shown to be can be gawd aweful at times.

foster is a weak link and so is gilbert at times. more than I should count for them being starters and one given a new contract.

we line up for a short yardage situation bringing in the big back and don't use a FB. we bring in a LBer that's 36 years old. really?

we have holes and we have problems from top to bottom, yet we become one of those teams that we should beat, against teams like indy, Baltimore, Cleveland and without the 2 and 1/2 minute outburst, Houston.

none of this is a championship caliber team. championship caliber teams may have a hiccup along the way but as someone said this is a pattern. our coaches, front office, qb, and every other player are just as jekyl and hyde as they come. you don't win lombardi's with teams like this.

This is a very telling stat that indicates a trend. Different players, different seasons, same head coach. Tomlin needs to try something different for weak opponents. This has to have a mental component, not skill level, as it is so far off from the normal record against other types of teams. Whether it is game planning, less motivation, arrogance, or what, it needs to be addressed.

Everyone makes bad throws, Mac, but not everyone throws for 12 TD's in 2 games. The line reverted back to sucking Sunday. And Beachum gets no pass from me, hes been no better than Foster and Gilbert IMO. Decastro and Pouncey are the only solid players on the line.

I've always said the Steelers overlook these teams with poor records, a total lack of preparation each and every time. That would be the most likely scenario for the poor execution. You have to keep the prod to these players week after week on the practice field regardless of who's scheduled. We have a few players on this team that's way too cocky in the media along with after plays. That's ok if you can back your $hyt up and stay consistent each and every game regardless who we lineup across. Clearly our opponents are not beating us...we are beating self.

Obviously Tomlin has to get this team up and ready to play teams regardless of their records, avoiding the vulnerability of being trapped.

Tomlin has his deficiencies, no doubt about it, BUT EVERY coach talks about bad teams as though they are good. I would almost bet that if you listened to John Fox's presser over the weekend that he probably came out and said the cliched thing of like "hats off to the raiders. that's a good team that we just beat and their record doesn't tell the whole story" blah blah blah. That's a league wide thing and is really just a part of sportsmanship. I just wonder if they talk about them like that behind closed doors. There's so much psychology that goes in to pro sports that it's ridiculous. Maybe Tomlin thinks it's better to tell the team that it's gonna be a long and hard fought battle as opposed to pumping Ben and the WRs up all week by telling them they are gonna feast on the worst secondary in football. Who knows?

It just seems like everything we do is a microcosm these days. Like if Ben makes ONE bad throw it gives the perception that he makes tons of bad throws. Or if the line gives up ONE sack it gives the perception that they give up tons of sacks. The line has certainly been somewhat better this year but they are a long way from where they need to be. But this game was another one of those microcosms where Ben makes some bad throws, Wheaton shows his lack of chemistry, the line gets pummeled, AB has a boneheaded play, special teams looks like crap again, the playcalling is suspect, the defense gives up the big play, and on and on and on. SOME of those things have been pretty regular lately but on Sunday ALL of those things were the case. SURELY that can't happen again!

Actually, Dejan Kovacevic pressed him on this after Sunday's loss and Tomlin refused to discuss it, only wanted to look at the Jets game on its own.

He's been asked about it before. He was even asked about it last Tuesday...basically he said there are no homecoming games and there are no 1AA opponents in the NFL.

Can't help but concluding the players get swelled heads over press clippings. It seems like every major local and national sports story posted this past week about the Steelers came back to bite them on the asses and crumbled like an imported beach chair this past game:

    1. Jerry Rice calling out "AB is the best young receiver in the game today -- he can do it all!" Then he comes out and fumbles twice.
    2. "Steelers Offensive Success Has Munchak's Fingerprints All Over It!" Offense and OL falls flat on it's face.
    3. "Clear off a Shelf In Canton For Big Ben!" BB comes out and throws 2 horrible interceptions and his most miserable first 3 Qtrs of the year.

The list goes on and on and..............................

Thank you NiteRider for doing this.

This shows everything right here. I seriously wondered if we've ever beat one of these teams turns out we have once....in 8 tries. Yay for our team.
