I long for the days when this team will beat the teams that it should beat. I may be waiting for a while.

Over the last few years, this team continues to play just good enough...perform just well enough...have just enough success...to get my hopes just high enough...to disappoint me at the end of the season. At this point, I almost would like to see them completely tank a year, in order to put them in a good draft position.

    Go Steelers.

This will continue until they fire Tomlin. He's an okay coach but is abysmal at preparing for bad teams.

And as much as I like Tomlin in some ways, I can't help but think that the inconsistency that this team demonstrates year in and year out is his fault to significant degree. A lack of discipline and execution has characterized his team to a degree that I am not comfortable with. I'm not clamoring for him to be fired (yet)--I still hold out hope that he will grow as a coach--but I am growing tired of staring at the elephant in the room.

By the way, thanks to this board for indulging my shameless reply to my own post :)

They knew the jets secondary was a weakness. Why not take the ball first and tear it up? No we give them the ball, they score first and this team is not prepared mentally to rebound. The coaching staff doesn't know how to prepare for opponents week to week. This is what a Mike Tomlin team looks like I'm afraid.

    It is.

We've had different offensive coordinators and still have seen this problem.

We've had all kinds of assistant coaches and still have had this problem.

We've had many different players, at all positions, and still have had this problem.

The one constant through all of this, aside from Ben, LeBeau, and Troy, is Tomlin.

You're assuming they prepare at all. I'm not sure they do.

to me this team is in the hands of:
    ben /hailey
    lebeau
and the only difference i see from last year his that munchak is improving our oline .

tomlin is not in charge of anything .. post game press and chearing on the sideline that's it ..... now if they are ok with this they can keep him , if they want somebody that can put a stamp on the team they should look somewhere else ..

    my two cents

I think the Jets front 7 and secondary can be good when they are not on the field all day. Geno Smith had 10 int's and a ton of 3 and outs through 8 games that kept the D in a bad position.

All the above. Bad game planning. Bad secondary, go deep all day, not this dink and dunk screen crap.

I couldn't understand why we didn't air it our either. The only thing I can think of is that they thought the Jets would be expecting that and had prepared for that, so they went a different direction to mess them up...? Of course, it didn't work.

What I don't understand is how you would prepare a game plan all week knowing that the major weakness is the opposing secondary and they're front seven is the strength and you wouldn't just throw and throw more. Ben has just come off of two steller performances. The ball was taken out of his hands. Did Rooney get involved saying to run it more? Into they're strength? Screens? Was Haley delusional preparing said game plan? I believe so. What a horrible display. Oh, and the D went back into they're funk. Watching the 1st quarter I thought the worst. And it got worse. Wake up call? Let's hope Steeler friends, let's hope...

I didn't get to watch the game, but looking at the stats, Ben throw it plenty and Bell didn't get a lot of carries. Throwing 40+ times per game is a lot in the NFL.

Yeah, but it was dink and dunk stuff. We didn't expose their weakness, which is their secondary, at all until the end of the game (which of course was too late).

Is it because the Oline couldn't give Ben enough time to throw the deep stuff? What was the pressure like all game? Dink and dunk can still expose the secondary of teams, Brady has made a career of doing that. Even a 7 yard throw can expose the secondary.

I tend to think that the reason is Haley's philosophy/MO when it comes to play-calling. It seems he works hard to pass when he thinks the opposing defense is thinking we will run...and run when he thinks the opposing defense is thinking we will pass. In other words, he is trying to out-guess the opposing DC. It can be a viable strategy, but unfortunately this approach seems to lead to him over-thinking things and failing to simply play to our strengths and exploit the other team's weaknesses. I would prefer he do the former only after the latter has proven unsuccessful.

The offense didn't have problems moving the ball. They had problems taking care of the ball and scoring TD's when they had the opportunities. Some people still don't understand the game at all. Turn the ball over 4 times and you will lose the game 90% of the time.

Because Ben stated that the Jets took away longer throws and left him the underneath stuff

We had some very bad play calling including going for it in 4th and two when we were down by 17. Further when we were down by 17 we went for it on 1st and and one with a play to Harrison the offense with James in. We should have rushed up to middle.
