As tight as our division is still think we are a must win territory this Sunday or we could end up back to the basement of the division and being swept by the ravens will give us almost no chance to win the division

Does anyone on here really think that on the night they retire Joe Greene's number that any team that takes the field against the Steelers stands a chance? Heck if they lose then everyone should be fired. That's like losing a game when you dedicate it to the Chief or Noll it ain't happening.

The win over the Colts means a lot. It really means that there is no reason to lose to the rats.

I see the need to be realistic, and the Ravens will be a tough game... but this is quite a dramatic overstatement. It lowers our chances. It doesn't destroy the season. But hopefully it won't be an issue.

Ive got to disagree. A Ravens loss puts them at 1-3 in the division with Cincinnati sitting there with that damn tie.

Once you start working though tie breakers, you could end up with a situatin like last year with divisio al records coming to play first. This is a must win and they should aproach it as such. Would be a different story if this was some random NFC team and not a divisional game. They have the opportunity to put the Ravens down 1-3 in the division. These are the situations that we've seen past years teams not take advantage of. Every game is impotant, but some have bigger impacts on your season than others.

For sure, it's a game of great significance, and we do really need to win it. What I was contesting was that it removes any chance of taking the division, and the season's basically over from there. I got fed up of hearing that last year when even after all of the 'must-win' games we lost, we were still an inch or two (whether Brown's foot or a KC field goal) away from making the play-offs.

But I take your point. A loss will make things significantly more difficult. But not to the extent that Real Steel loves to suggest.

Ok, I see what you're saying. Would love to roar into the playoffs if they make it instead of hoping another team loses 2 or more games down the stretch.

Definitelu need to sweep Cincinnati though. That tie is worth more than a win.

If this defense doesn't find a pass rush, Fluckyfluky will pick them apart, we have to have a better defense than the one that played against the colts.....

Study the footage from the Cinci and Dolts game and we stand a good chance of sweeping the Bengals.

This is a playoff game as far the AFC North goes. If we lose we'd be a game behind the Ravens, and the best we could finish in our division is 3-3, which would be the worst the Ravens could do ... and they'd have the sweep against us in their pocket. Also the Bengals host the Jags this week, so a loss will likely find us 1.5 games behind them, and they are already 2-0 in the division with a sweep of the Ravens in their pocket, and 2 games vs the Browns left to play. I don't know about you, but I can't imagine the Browns sweeping the Bengals.

btw the Browns host TB, which likely means that we have to win just to avoid slipping back behind them in the standings.

It's ALWAYS good to beat the Ravens period. It's good for our confidence, our divisional status, and it's a win. So I do think it's important to beat the Ravens this week. I also think that if we stay consistent & get this win in a big way, people will start giving us the respect we deserve. Except the NFL Network. The NFL Network just don't like us for some reason.

At this point, I think it is more important to beat the Bengals twice

Everybody makes good valid points that's why this is a must win. Of course you'd love to win both Colts and ravens but I'd rather lost to Colts and beat the ravens this week

I haven't done any of the math on this, yet. I've only casually checked out standings on NFL.com. However, the divisional race is very important. That's why I say beating the Ravens is necessary for the Steelers to lock in on the playoffs (given consistent drive, focus, and intensity that can carry them through the rest of the season).

I think the games against both the Colts and the Ravenes at Heinz are extremely important, but for different reasons, at some levels.

That being said... I'd like to see the Steelers put their collective feet on the collective necks of every other team left on their schedule!

Amen to that! This whole notion of selective "must win" games is a joke. If a team hasn't clinched a #1 seed yet or already been eliminated - they damn well better be pulling out all stops and playing to win every single game, regardless of who it is and what the circumstances are! Even then, we've seen what often happens to teams in the playoffs that relax after clinching. Throw in an occasional "statement game" like last Sunday and now you get to play with the psyche of upcoming opponents. 60 Minute Men for rest of season!

(and no -not those self-righteous morons on the CBS TV show with the same name)
