    ...for most yards?

I don't know... I think it was better just to kill the clock and ice the game.

I was talking to my Dad and he was kind of upset, especially since we went all out for Antonio? Tomlin said he didn't know what the record was for most yards, but my Dad insists someone would have called down to him from the owners box and told him, I'm not so sure.

    What do you think?

IMO this is one of the problems with the team, they dont go for the kill and try to ease into a win. It was working, I wouldve let Ben be Ben and pass away. And I m with your dad, I was upset too.

A couple not dropped passes could have fixed that.

We were up by 17 with just a few minutes to go. I say go for the record. You know they would have done it for P. Manning (either of his teams), Brady, Brees, Favre, Marino and even Luck. Only thing I can think is the team was unaware of how close he was since virtually all on the MB this afternoon were unaware that Ben's 2 500 YD games was an NFL record and not just a Steeler record. I thought for sure that Marino or Brees had already done it.

Exactly. It reaaaally killed me when Bryant dropped that ball. I know it is a moot point and we won the game and all that but it would have been cool for Ben to maybe get the record. However, I would only want it to happen during the course of the game. There's no sense in forcing things in a league where anything can happen and you have a guy as dangerous as Luck playing against you.

:this!: There was little danger of him getting hurt and Ben didn't need that many more yards. This is also the kind of thing to unite players around a program. Would've been a fine example of a HC+OC supporting a QB

When I first heard the announcer say something... I thought to myself , "Wow, Brady didn't do this back when he had Moss and they wrecked the league that one year?" It didn't really cross my mind either.

I doubt they were even aware he was close to a record.

I still would have gone one more PA pass play though. ;)

If DHB doesn't fumble I bet you he would have gotten it. Also if Blount didn't fumble he probably would have had another td pass.

I agree with blount, only during the course of a game if it happens. If Ben stays this sharp and the O-line keeps getting better, he'll get it anyway. I think we took a step in the direction of sticking a knife in the heart of opponents finally today. Hope so anyhoo.

No. Tomlin did the right thing this time. Chasing records gets players and the team into bad habits.

You can't possibly expect to ever see another game like that from Ben.

I think they should have acknowledged Bens efforts and allowed for him to break the record. I don't believe Tomlin did not know about it. In many respects this record has more meaning than ABs .. so why not?

Agree! Lets take care of winning games and worry about records later. Stay focused on winning games right now.

Disagree! He's had a 500 yard game before and i think we absolutely have the talent to do that again. Although I will agree the chances aren't very high that it will happen again. ;)

    I agree on both.

But weren't there people calling for Tomlin's head a few weeks back because he let Brown get an extra pass to keep his record up?

I dunno... I think they played sensible football throughout. Yes, it was an amazing game by Ben, and the yardage was ridiculous, BUT he didn't do it by just slinging it everywhere and anywhere. It was focused execution all around, and I doubt the record came into anybody's head.

I was actually surprised to still see Ben in the game after the 2 minute warning...

To be honest with you. I'm a football guru and I forgot that it was Norm Van Brocklin that held the record. I googled it once the game was over. You think someone at CBS would have seen Jim Nantz's or Phil Simms and told them how close he was.

I think the organization owed that to Ben to try and do it
he won't be able to compete with Brady and manning for tds and yards so it would have been especially nice to hAve that one
di anyone ask Ben about it did he know? Did he want to try ?

They should have gone for the record for Ben.

I would have rather seen him throw, than take that hit on the bootleg run. He took a huge hit on that by that way too.

Wasn't that final tackle of Ben a botched PA bootleg? Thought that was Tomlin saying go for it..

It was designed to be a throw, but there was obviously nothing on.

I think Indy wouldn't have been completely caught by surprise had Ben playactioned... but I agree that seeing him take a hit wasn't a great way to finish.

I actually thought it was a broken play myself. Has it been confirmed that Ben ran the play as called?

I have not read anything BFT but I am pretty sure it was a blown play and Ben doing what he does best and trying to make something out of nothing..
