Without hearing the audio, it's hard to say for sure but when you combine his comments in this article with comments in the past about feeling snubbed, I think he will want out of here. Out of 385 snaps, he's rushed 128 times, played the pass 96 times and defended the run 156 times. I think he's sick of being held back, which is how I think he feels. Of course money talks but he may want a ton to convince him to stay here. Which sucks because they will use another draft pick on a LB if he leaves.

I think you're right. And I also believe he's going to want a lot more money than we need to be spending on him

My fear with him is that we've seen the best he has to offer and then at the end of the year he is gonna have some really good games and cause us to overpay him. I REALLY hope that doesn't happen but that's my fear. I think he is gone too though.

I think he'll be gone as well. The Steelers will likely let the market decide, and after making what he made this year, I imagine he and his agent will have an inflated idea of his value.

    Interesting factoid-

As it stands, Worilds is on pace to exceed the amount of times a Steelers OLB has dropped into pass coverage (perhaps excluding James Harrison in 2010) going back to 2007.

Raises the question: is this because the pass rush and/or secondary coverage has been ineffective, or is it why the pass rush has been ineffective?

He's as good as gone, and even with his breakout handful of games down the stretch last year I would've let him walk in the beginning. His needed presence hasn't amounted to jack. The coaches feel they need to drop him into coverage and like it or not that's what they're doing. I don't believe if it was reversed, that he'd be lighting the pocket up. Never been a fan and DO NOT want to see them pay stupid bucks for a guy who had a flash in the pan moment. Enough knee jerk signings as it stands and he was another via the tag! Let him go and make a boatload and we'll all laugh at how he has 4-5 tackles 6 weeks into next season a la Woodley.

P.S. While I can understand his frustration at not getting chances earlier in his career here from his previous rants, I don't like his attitude and when he got his chances he was a chandelier. He can only effectively rush the right tackle sometimes but he wants LT killer status. Nope, move him out.

Yeah, I think we all see this one. Has he done enough, thus far, to justify huge sums of money?

It's why the pass rush isn't effective. It's not just Worilds, they are barely rushing the QB at all. If they weren't going to rush the QB, then why didn't they just focus on the secondary in the draft? Myself and others have argued that a good pass will help the secondary, but here they are, dropping the LB's into coverage all the time and the secondary still sucks AND no pass rush.

I don't get it, they are being picked apart anyway, might as well send everything plus the kitchen sink at the QB.

No, but neither did Cortez Allen. Holmes shouldn't have been traded for peanuts. We should have taken the 3rd round pick for Sanders rather than let him walk. We should have explored trading Wallace instead of letting him walk. Ike and Troy getting extensions when they're clearly done.

I no longer have faith in our front office to do the right thing

I'm not sure Troy and Ike are clearly done. Beside, who would you replace Troy Polamalu with? The question itself illustrates the difficulty. I can't fault them there.

You forgot about Gilbert. I don't exactly view him as a perennial pro bowler either.

Neither do I, but to their credit (the FO), they didn't s(bad word) out big money to these guys, as $5 mil for capable starters isn't terrible. I know Cortez isn't starting and Gilbert has his struggles, but these guys aren't bad cogs in the wheel and both are still relatively young. Not excellent, or even good moves, but definitely not terrible.

I still don't like the overall effectiveness of the FO, but signing Cortez and Gilbert are the least of my concerns with them.

And yeah, I think Worilds is as good as gone at the end of the year. He's not setting the world on fire, never has, and will be easy to replace.

What do you make of this portion of the article?:

Coach Mike Tomlin offered a mixed review Tuesday when asked how Worilds has played this season.

“He’s had some good games and performance in pockets of games, and he’s had some games where he’s been less impactful. We’re compensating him to be consistently impactful, and that’s what we’re searching for.”

Worilds said he was unaware of Tomlin’s comments.

“I didn’t hear that but I guess it’s more so just me trying to execute in those coverages, I guess making more plays in those coverages,” he said. “If you’re not getting the opportunity to rush, then you got to make some plays somewhere else. So I need to get with the DBs I guess.”

He said he believes Tomlin knows what Worilds is being asked to do in the schemes defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau runs.

“He’s the head coach, he knows,” Worilds said. “I think it’s more or less I guess a form of motivation” why he said what he did.

 Why exactly is Worilds finding out from a reporter that Tomlin is dissatisfied with his performance? This is a guy that hand picked Worilds over Sean Lee. I'm just perplexed by this. Worilds seems surprised to be hearing this and basically sees right through the fact that Tomlin is using it as a "form of motivation". Here's a novel concept, if Tomlin has issues with Worilds' performance maybe he should tell, wait for it, WORILDS! This is also further evidence that DL needs to move on. You've got an exceptional pass rusher and you're choosing to use him as a defensive back. This team is in need of some direction. Did anyone else find this troubling?

Because Worilds is full of ****, Tomlin called him out in a meeting.

Do you miss Colon? I had literally forgot all about him and then the other night he got a penalty in the jets game and I was like "oh yeah we used to have him and he got penalties for us too". LOL.

What meeting? I'll admit that Worilds does seem to run his mouth to the press more than he should at times, but he's got a lot of ability as a pass rusher and Tomlin and DL are using him to cover receivers. Worilds will make whatever he's going to make in the NFL as a pass rusher, not a coverage linebacker.

One of those chats on PG, IIRC, it said Tomlin told him that in a team meeting.

This guy clearly doesn't like the whole OLB package, which requires to drop into coverage.
When this defense was successful, it was most because opponent QB was always guessing who would blitz, and that meant that either our NT could drop into coverage with our MLB blitzing, or our DEs were covering flat zone while our OLB were committed to pressure the QB (or, what he doesn't like: OLB dropping into coverage while others blitz).

I have a feeling that he will walk away with more than 1M per sack after the season.
He was clearly not interested in working a contract extension during preseason. Reading what he's saying right now, I can imagine he's upset because he thought that this season would be his breakout, with 12+ sacks and would get a higher contract offer elsewhere.
Also, he played leverage knowing we had no plan B (besides Moats).

I don't think his attitude fits the Steelers scheme, particularly with the kind of issues we're dealing with right now.

Nope, don't miss him at all! I thought he was always decent, but expendable. Too bad our FO "expended" him with more of the same. He had a fiery attitude but always seemed to draw penalties, much like Kemo. Too bad we can't just find 4 more DeCastro's!
