I think for same reason as our d currently stinks, we held onto vets ahead of them for too long. Batch and Leftwich shouldn't have hung on as long as they did.

He was brought in to be a backup for a couple of weeks then cut when no longer needed....they were planning to sign him to an off season contract and such but AZ scooped him up instead. Things like this happen all the time. I'm glad he's gotten a chance to show his stuff and not stuck as a backup though.

Exactly this. A player like Hoyer taking off requires a certain set of circumstances falling into place at the right time. Well played to him. I think he's surprised everybody this season.

Because the Steelers brass didn't want anyone that would push Ben and kept Lefty and Batch.

Who knows he never got the chance with Lefty and Batch there and the Tomlin wouldn't let either of them go. Obviously the kid can play.

He was a Steeler for 18 days. He was signed on just before week 11 of the NFL season which means that he had been unemployed passed on by EVERY team in the NFL (Belichick the brain released him on Aug 31st). You act like they drafted him or signed him during FA in the 2011 offseason.

I'm amused. Hoyer completed < 50% of his passes, and moved his team and scored their points exactly how we DON'T want Ben to play. Holding onto the ball and throwing back clear across the field ... and he's being praised as the next coming.
