Steelers success has been against poor defenses

By Ray Fittipaldo / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell are having Pro Bowl-caliber seasons and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is on pace to throw for more yards than he has in his 11-year career. The Steelers are fourth in the NFL in total offense and average 404 yards per game.

Perhaps Brown, Bell and Roethlisberger will maintain their torrid starts for the remainder of the season and the Steelers will remain one of the top five offenses in the league, but it’s worth noting they have had the good fortune of playing some of the worst defensive teams in the league in the early going.

Yet their average YPG vs the two non-bottom defenses has netted them only 26 ypg less (378) than vs bottom d's, which is still a top 10 offense.

That's all well and good. I'm glad to see them put up good yardage.

But we need them to put up POINTS.

The best defense they've played is the Ravens at #16.

And Pittsburghs defense is currently 9th if you want to keep things in perspective....
