I think this game with the Browns will show us if Pgh will be competitive this year. They were not impressive against TB or JAX, but a decisive win against Cleveland would show that they are for real and help for making the playoffs. I want to see if the D is able to fix the problems against Browns during the second half last time.

A loss will indicate another mediocre season.

i am hoping to see JH silence the doubters with a couple of key sacks! Go Steelers!

    wow!

i never thought i would hear the words "a decisive win against Cleveland would show that the Steelers are for real"

the Browns are better, but i dont they they are the benchmark as to how good a team is or isnt.

the Steelers have already lost to the Ravens and an 0 win Tampa team. they struggled against a 0 win Jaguars team and beat a beat up and not very good Panthers team.

this team needs to beat more than just an improved Cleveland team to show that they are for real.

I seem to remember a similar thread last week. The problem is, the way the team is - and has been for a while - one game won't be indicative of an entire season. We could lose horribly, then go unbeaten until the Superbowl. We could play like champions, then fail to qualify for the play-offs.

This season is all about the old cliché of taking one game at a time.

True. All beating the Browns means is that we won't finish dead last in the AFC North.

Our run defense has improved a lot, this week will be a big test since Cleveland boast one of the best running attacks in the NFL. They also have a very good line which will make it even tougher for our group to get to Hoyer. And lets see if our secondary can build on last weeks performance.

Better have an answer for their no huddle or it will be an ugly day.

I agree and was thinking the same thing earlier this week. This is a much improved Browns team and quite honestly, this game is HUGE for them. If we can go in there and hand them their butts on a silver platter on their home field, win a divisional game and improve to 4-2, we've got a shot to have a good season and make a run for the playoffs. If we lose, we'll be...

    ...wasting away again in Mediocreville!

Our run defense has improved, but we've also played some garbage rushing offenses. Tampa, Carolina, and Jacksonville are #24, #30, and #31, in the NFL in rushing.

I know, this game is a bigger test for the defensive side than it is for the offense. While the Browns have a great ground attack and formidable offensive line, their defense is the pits. Should be able to move the ball plenty on them, scoring is a different matter all together.

But losing to them would show that they are absolutely not for real.

I think winning this week would be a better sign than losing this week ;)

Kidding aside, I think this game is huge. I know there are not mathematical must wins when you're 3-2, but I firmly believe a loss tomorrow will be fatal. If we get to 3-3 with losses to Tampa and Cleveland, we're not good.

Ever consider that we're part of the reason they rank so low?

Depends. There are good wins and bad wins. I mean, if we win ugly is that really any better than a loss. Think about it. :lolol:

This. Roughly 1/3 of the season has been played, and if you play 2 of the top offenses in that span, you are probably gonna be listed as one of the leagues worst defenses.

OMG, I can`t believe I am giving the Clowns any credit at all,

    But the reality is...

They brought in Donte Whitner, Karlos Dansby,Paul Kruger, etc,

To go along with a D-line, That already had Jaball Sheard, Phil Taylor, DEz Bryant, and another good Dez, that I forget...
Oh Yeah, they are gonna b throwin the Ishmaily Kitchen sink, at us, since Taylor`s hurt...
And isn`t there a guy named Rubin over there? He ain`t bad..

Buster Skrine is no slouch at cb, despite reports to the contrary,

And Joe Haden is bound to recover, Even tho Antonio has owned him in recent history...

Yes, they are hurt, currently, and that should help us,

    But the truth is,,
Their defense has been their strength for a while, except for a few screwed up plays (sound familiar?)...

I can`t believe you would call their d out, as the reason they suck...

We can beat them, but we better be ready for a fight.

This is not gonna be the cakewalk we are used to...

On the bright side, nobody can say, "Well of COURSE" you should beat them!

They are for real, whether any of my Black n Gold Brethern want to admit it, or not!!!

Look at their final scores this year...
    Do NOT take them lightly!!!
That MIGHT work in our favor!
    GO STEELERS!!!:herewego!:
    KILL THE CLOWNS!!!!
Just don`t expect it to be easy!

    Sage words, BleedSteel.

Cleveland usually go out of their way to find a way to suck, but they aren't the torrid team of past years. If they'd have had a more consistent and coherent approach over the last 5 years, based on draft positions and FA pick ups, they should be contenders for the North. They're not - and we should still beat them - but they aren't the whipping boys of old.

Their D was supposed to be their strength but they have largely sucked to this point. Not making it up, check it out, names don't make a good defense, play does.

Yes. Good teams find a way to win, even on days where they don't play their best. That's the goal. There are no style points in the NFL, only wins and losses. When we win ugly, I may be concerned about the reasons that it was ugly, and I may even rant about it on the message board, but at the end of the day it's a W, and you usually need 10+ W's to have a good shot at a playoff berth. Yeah, I was extremely frustrated after Week 1. I was ticked off at how we had no answer for Cleveland going up-tempo. It was like our defense had never seen a team go no-huddle and was completely befuddled. We also got physically manhandled at the point of attack. But at the end of the day it's a W, and if the mistakes that led to a win being ugly can be corrected, then it really doesn't matter whether you win by 3 or by 20.

For the record, I agree. I've got to work on this green ink thing. We've had some ugly wins over the last few years but at the end of the day, they're better than a loss. But I guess one could argue that ugly wins, when combined with enough losses to keep you out of the playoffs, actually hurt your draft position and keep you in the land of mediocrity for longer than you'd like. I think that's where we are at the moment.

Since the 70's, the Steelers have never been a bottom feeder and yet still manage to put together good to great teams.
