I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but these are high school refs at practice this week, not league officials. Not to imply it's not a worthy endeavor...just to clarify.

    :this!:

If that is indeed the case, it's making this team look even worse in my eyes. Why bother? Were MLB officials busy?

Why would you want Major League Baseball officials? In case you didn't know NFL refs work part time for the NFL in addition to their full time jobs. That part time should come with a disclaimer because after their travel time, meetings, weekly reports blah blah blah they put in 30 hours a week.

Why does it matter that they are high school football referees? At least Tomlin is trying to get a handle on the penalties. Plus I've heard quotes here, maybe not you directly that "high school referees could do a better job than the NFL referees". This is not a bad thing!

I wouldn't think that the league would let them use NFL refs anyway. I'm sure these 'rental' refs are getting paid for their time and I'm sure the NFL would not want their refs to be taking money on the side from a team that they might have officiate in the future. Imagine the belly-aching that would go on here, if a zebra made a critical call against the Steelers in the next Balt game turned out to have been paid by Harbaugh to officiate one of his practices.

So they have to use college or HS refs. There are plenty of High school refs, they're local, they're cheap and don't do NFL games. It's probably more important for the players to learn to be mindful of the presence of the referees than it is for refs to be fully knowledgeable and capable. I'm sure they're adequate for this test.

Right, that's not allowed. They have to get creative if they want practices officiated.
