to me the mess inside is even bigger that what we think , lebeau and his scheme , tomlin and colbert drafting players that dosn't fit the sistem , colbert extended allen and bring cam thomas and mitchell (while i give mitchell some game before to judge him a bust ) . i don't know ther e is something that is not logic on this , only could be that there are to going to retire lebeau and change the defensive scheme .. but if is that ..why keep him this year ?

lebeau and tomlin has two different thinking about defense , the problem was hide in the first years because we had the same players cowher drafted (that fixed lebeau sistem) now the tomlin(and colbert) are rebuilding , lebeau has to chose between player that doesn't fit his sistem if the rooney still think tolmlin is their man the have to fire - retire lebeau as soon as possible . anyway i would clean the house (colbert tomlin lebeau )... but that's me

Tomlin's 1 season as DC in Minny did not show good results. At least not good in any way that I define good. Minny finished #1 vs the run, but tied for dead worst vs the pass that season, and 14th in scoring defense ... so spotty at best.

 They didn't hire him because of his race get a clue he was a young DC with Minnesota, who had a great interview. Same as Cowher he was a young DC with Kansas City when he got the job.

You're over it because I destroy your weak arguments every time :dancing:.How many Super Bowls did the great Cowher win with his own players the answer is 1 the same as Tomlin. Jon Gruden won a Super Bowl with Tony dungy players Gruden still gets credit for it, and George Seifert won 2 Super Bowls with Bill Walsh players.

Those numbers are inflated hes won 2 more games than Cowher did in his first 7 seasons and has had a stud QB every year. He has 43 wins with players that were given to him. 2006-2010 that was the core group that led this team to his 2 SB apperaances and 1 win. Since then he is 28-16 .571 avg football and avg coaching if you ask me.

Here is an article that sems appropriate to this conversation:

    http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/blog/2012/08/the-definition-of-a-players-coach.html

I am in the same camp as Ray D in thinking the term "player's coach" was an endorsement of a coach that can teach the players and develop them and have the players wanting to play for him. I seem to have heard the term many times and often it is to guys like Gruden, Carroll, Harbaugh, Rex Ryan, etc. This is in contracst to guys more in the mold of Belicheck, who is more a disciplinatian and a system/plan coarch.

I have heard some of the x-players on the talking heads shows (Cris Carter, Keyshon, Sapp, etc.) refer to Tomlin as a player' coach and a current coach they would like to play for...

That said, I am still wondering a bit what exactly Tomlin brings to the team. He does not appear to have a tangible thing like being an offensive or defensive mastermind. He has not brough in discipline and fundanentals, He is not a master game planner or manager, etc. I support him as the coach of the Steelers, but I have often wondered what some of the other coaches in this league could have done with the Steelers.

A great HS coach could have led this team to the same results in those first 4 season.

OBVIOUSLY it was a little tongue in cheek but with any capable NFL manager they could have achieved the same results I truly feel that way.

I have made no secret at all of the fact that I am over Tomlin. I don't think he is the man for the job and we need a change. Having said that, I think his young and black comment is just as TTF said: He is not much older than his players and the majority of them are black so he tends to get labeled a players coach. I have no issue with what he said. I have FAR bigger issues with Tomlin than that comment.

Some of you Steelers fans are a embarrassment to SteelerNation, if you don't like the coach Tomlin that's fine but the name calling and to question his intelligence. Then act like he only got hired because of his race and the Rooney rule, or to think they can't fire him because of his race. I have no problem with the Steelers firing him when his contract is up if the team doesn't get back to the playoffs. Some fans just showing their true colors it's pathetic IMO.

I'll tell you what, I'll reconsider the Rooney Rule hiring stance ... just as soon as he gets the OK to hire/fire his own coordinators.

Thats just spinning away anything good he has done to bolster your argument.

I've posted in the past, a number of NFL coaches that have inherited very good teams and fell on their face.

I can cause they were a team led by Cowher's veteran players all he had to do was not f&@k it up.

Well said, Ray. Time to end that particular BS discussion.

Like FearTheBeard said, the issues with the team (whether it's Tomlin or other things) far surpass the comment in question.
