BF, I'm talking bigger picture than just AB's stupid penalty. I'm talking about a team that is 6-9 against its last 15 opponents with losing records - i.e. CONSISTENTLY playing down to lower competition. I'm talking about stupid penalties week in and week out. I'm talking about coming out flat and getting down big in 2 of 4 games. I'm talking about an antiquated defensive scheme that was great several years ago, but is now confusing its own players more than inexperienced opposing QBs. I'm talking big picture, head coach level stuff affecting this team week in and week out.

However, on the topic of AB being stupid and selfish - how much credibility can Tomlin have getting into AB's face when Tomlin did his own little selfish, stupid thing last year on the sideline in Baltimore? Do as I say, not as I do?

At first I was a bit taken aback by the virulence of deljzc's rant a few posts ago, but while I think it went too far in name calling, I had difficulty finding holes in the underlying logic. At the midpoint of last season, I stated that I was a long-time Tomlin supporter who was losing faith. My faith in Tomlin is gone. If this team rebounds to play smart, tough football and win double digit games to make the playoffs, I'll give the man his due. However, at this juncture I can't see midseason adjustments making enough of a difference for this team to contend.

I had a good family friend tell me once that Cowher was a bad coach. I was shocked because at the time I thought he was a great coach but then I stepped back and looked at the situation. I discovered he was basically right. During his long tenure Cowher really didn't coach players up. The origin of next player up was because Cowher knew what he wanted in his system and went out and got guys that he could plug and play and just kept reloading them. I mean there were plenty of failures you can look at of guys that showed potential but just didn't reach it in Pittsburgh meanwhile you lose one LB or OL guy and the next guy up is just as good. They knew what they wanted in those and went and got them.

Now you look at Tomlin whether you love the guy or hate him his philosophy is what is creating problems. He has no vision of what he wants his team to be and doesn't mold them into his vision. He talks every year about a new 53 and writing their own story, don't get me wrong he does have some ideas about what he wants but they aren't well defined. He has some things that the Rooney's want like a tough defense and a solid run game but he is unsure how to put those in place. When asked about his team its always they are writing their own story or we are going to be a tough team to play against. How do you plan a draft or free agency if you have no idea what you want your team to be?

Now I know Del has said he thinks Colbert should be gone and maybe he should I don't know. What I do know is that he has a tough job his HC doesn't give him a solid vision to try and put in place, his owners want something and that may clash with what Tomlin wants. It is impossible to rebuild a team when you have no direction. That is what I really wanted to see from Tomlin this season was a cohesive vision for what his team will be going forward. He doesn't have to be Cowher but make a decision and mold your team.

Hey everyone- I'm new here & my name's Ashley. I needed somewhere to vent among my fellow fans about today's loss. I know we all have our own opinions/complaints on why we lost and this mine.
I don't know why ppl are so hard on the D-Line. I get we don't get the penetration/pressure we should- but they did a good job in shutting down the run. My biggest problem is the secondary. I still don't get why they got rid of Clarky and I don't get what they saw in Cortez Allen to give him the contract. He is BAD. The Bucs saw it and took advantage many times. Our secondary can't cover and can't tackle. We're in trouble there.
Not a big fan of Tomlin. Last season when James Harrison came to Pittsburgh with the Bengals, they interviewed him. They showed him a pic of Tomlin & asked James what he thought of Tomlin. Harrison said something like this: He's like one of us. They don't need an equal, they need a coach. Someone called into a sports shows and asked if Tomlin will get fired after the Ravens loss. The host said that Tomlin still has the locker room so his job is safe. I don't get how he has that locker room with the penalties today. I know some were crap and the Refs missed a couple against them but some of the penalties were just stupid and uncalled for. They didn't earn many first downs, we gave them to them in a black & gold bow!
As far as the Offense... I don't know why we don't use Lance Moore and Darius H.B. more. Then the O-Line looked like they weren't even there. My biggest offensive complaint was at the end of the game when we didn't even TRY to get a first down. That's all it woulda taken- 1 first down and we woulda won. But for some reason, they left it up to the defense. Had they been watching the same game we were all day?! Sometimes I think Todd Haley is great. But then there are times when he acts like he has no idea what he's doing. Ugh!! Today's my birthday too and all I wanted was a Steelers win!
I know this is long but I feel so much better now.

Well now you're getting into two different things. I was specifically referring to stupid penalties.

The rest of the stuff, I've stated my opinion many times which obviously differs from yours.

We'll just have to wait and see where they are at the end of the season.

This coach stresses looking cool is more important than being smart.

It's the way he acts, non-verbally, all the time. And the players are just representative of him.

I'm still seething at this game.

And it's my Birthday too Ashley. Good to see some more September Libra's out there and welcome to the board. What a JOKE of a game today was.

Yeah, this was a really bad loss.... I haven't seen a great win like last week in awhile, and I haven't seen a loss this bad in a long time.

This is worse than being Tebow'd in my opinion.

I don't know dude. I was equally this mad when we lost to Miami. IN THE SNOW! There are lots of games I can think of under Tomlin that just tick me to no end. Still to this day I get mad thinking about losing in Cleveland when it was literally BELOW zero and we come out and throw it 50 times! There are just things that we do that are completely stupid and we have done that for a long time. Another thing that ticks me was when Ben was allowed to play on basically one foot in SF a few years ago. Crap like that is just dumb. This loss is lame for sure but I really can't rank it above any of the other dumb losses that we have become accustomed to. We've lost to some really bad teams in the past few years and they are all just starting to sorta run together for me.

LOL! Ahhh you gotta love losing.... If I were a clowns fan I would camp out here after every loss. LOL! We must really be a family because we really take each other to task. Honestly I'd say pretty much every Steelers forum sounds pretty much like we do tonight and Cooler Talk SURE did! When I heard certain callers I was like "ok that's Jack, that's BF, that's Myron, etc, etc, etc". LOL.

Yeah that SC was some chokage for sure man. At least UT lost though. I like when they lose because then when people tell me how bad the Steelers are I just remind them of the Vols. LOL.

Ben was steping back from under center and Pouncey was pointing out blocking assignments. I guess he moved the football and they called him for an illegal snap!

yep, major chokejob! After three 11 win seasons in a row, anything less than an SEC championship is a failure at this point. We've been too close for too long, and after watching 0-11 seasons, we're tired of saying "maybe next year..."

Spurrier's poor visor is gonna pay a horrible price. LOL. I'll tell you what though. If Spurrier can manage 11 wins we should trade him for Tomlin. LOL.
