With all that being said. He is not a good leader. In the real world, if his performance was that way with employee's that he was suppose to be supervising, he would lose his job if he let things go without saying a word. Or maybe he is afraid of what the player my say or do. But in either case he has to take charge and I'm surprised the Rooney's do not see that everyone else does.

The Giants owner did the same thing and forced a new offense on his coach and QB. The results are pretty much the same.

By the way, mr wonderful dark hoodie coach may have nice season records every year but Tomlin has him beat where it counts. You take your shining season records, I'll take shiny trophies :taunt:

Tomlin has 1 trophy, Belichick has 3, he has 5 rings to Tomlins 1 as well, i'm no great fan of belichick but when it comes to the Xs and Os and the billies and joes, Tomlin isnt in the same league with Belichick....

How many does he have during Tomlins tenure? That was my point.

I'm late to the party. As usual.

I'll try to make quick points that address the issues in this thread.

    1. To me, the entire problem is systemic. It starts at the top. So when we discuss a "lack of talent," where does the responsibility rest? Colbert? Tomlin? I think it's both.
    2. It seems that Tomlin has no philosophy or idea about what his team is supposed to be. He came out of a Tampa-2 system, with Dungy as a mentor, and then came to Pittsburgh and tried to fit his own square peg into the round hole that already existed. This worked fine for a couple of seasons.
    3. Because of #2, this is why the talent is lacking. Tomlin doesn't seem to know what pieces he needs, thus Colbert has no idea either. IMHO, the whole thing is a damn mess.
    4. Arguments about the changes in practice are valid. A case can be made that much of Tomlin's effectiveness as a coach was handcuffed with the new CBA. (Look at how ineffective Coughlin has become in New York!) Meanwhile, others, like Pete Carroll, are thriving. Carroll was bad coach in New York and New England. Go figure.
    5. LeBeau needs to retire. The writing was on the wall when Kevin Greene commented that it's the same old scheme it's ever been. The issue on defense is as much scheme as it is talent. There are few wrinkles. I don't care about the excuses: there is NO EXCUSE for allowing the Painters and Cassels and Tebows and Gronkowskis of the NFL to rip the D to shreds. When it happens here and there, fine. But now it is happening repeatedly. Sure, the new rules handcuff the defense. That's why we need some new ideas. I have no evidence of this, but LeBeau is treated with so much respect that I don't think anyone questions him. He's like the Captain of a ship, steering a boat into a reef, and nobody dares question him. Tomlin needed to take the reigns a few years ago and show leadership and ask him to step down and hand the job over to Butler. There's a reason Monte Kiffin and Jim Johnson, also gurus of the NFL, started losing their effectiveness the past few seasons in the NFL. (RIP, Mr. Johnson.)
    6. Let's not confuse criticism of Tomlin as a HC with him as a person. I LIKE Tomlin as a person.
    7. It's very possible that if Tomlin were to leave the Steelers, he'd take a couple of years off, and then come back as a much better HC and lead a new team (like Tampa or Jax) to the promised land. In short: I don't think Tomlin will be the HC he can be until he goes somewhere that needs to be rebuilt and is given full control. It seems he doesn't have that here.

Real world? Coaches, in general have about the least job security of any job, much more pressure to perform. You don't have any idea what goes on behind closed doors but I bet you the Rooneys do.

I dont know how people who are so removed from the situation can make declarations like that.

Tomlin puts out a "newspaper" every Monday, and he does call out guys who are under performing. Sure he may not do it to every one's liking but he does do it in his own style. Coach T trusts his assistant coaches (as he should) and their abilities (whether it be play calling, field position or schemes) . Where he is lacking is by not changing a game plan when it doesn't work.

Ben may be in his prime, but the rest of the team is being rebuilt. This is a team sport. Having a qb in his prime doesn't mean jack squat if you don't have the rest of the pieces.

I work and live in the real world like most of the rest of you (I figure we're mostly all working class). Uuuummm... I disagree with this statement. The world is full of management who are supposed to be leaders but aren't. And they don't get fired. They usually get large bonuses. I have worked for several of these kinds of people. I willing to bet many other board members have, also.

I'm going to stop after this point because it is probably a discussion for another thread. But check out how much more CEOs make, today, as opposed to 30-40 years ago. And many of them are terrible. And don't even get me started on Enron, BP... and the mother load of evidence: Goldman Sachs.
