Hello, yes I am a new poster...I've been lurking this forum for several years and been a Steelers fan since I won my first bet at the ripe old age of 6 when we beat the Cowboys in the Superbowl. I'm as passionate as they come about my team and it's getting tough to be excited for game day when it seems to mean more to me than the organization.

This is from a business article:

Have you ever seen a sports team fall apart when things don’t go their way or after they get a bad break?
It all comes back to their attitude. So why do people develop a bad attitude? Let me share what I witnessed recently that may shed some light on the subject. I was at a nine and ten year old baseball game. Before the game started I noticed a player who looked like he had a lot of potential and athletic ability. The other thing I noticed was he was very confident. Athletic ability and confidence usually is a combination for a great ball player. My dad would call it “cocky”.
This kid started out pitching. During the middle part of the game a few breaks went the other team’s way. You could tell it frustrated the player and the coach (his dad). The coach began arguing with the umpire behind the plate about the strike zone. Soon so did the player. The coach asked for time and went to the mound. He told the player to stay calm and to not argue with the umpire. As the coach was walking back to the dugout, he had a snide remark for the umpire.
The player’s attitude got worse and the team ended up making a few errors, walking batters, and with a sour attitude the whole time. They lost the game but more importantly they didn’t learn from the loss. The reason for their loss was the attitude of the team, not because it was someone else’s fault. They developed a victim mentality. The loss was their fault and not someone else’s. And it all started with the coach.
An organization will always take on the personality of its leader.

Does Tomlin show emotion on the field? Does the team?
We take way too many penalties....anyone see the coach step on the field last year?
Tomlin has said they don't alter the game plan. So the players continue to make the same mistakes and not adjust the way they play.
Tomlin says he wants a leader to step up....why would they when their leader doesn't.

    Just some random thoughts......

The one issue I have with that is that the problem predates Tomlin, and it's not just about dealing with adversity. We can't handle success either. People forget that the Steelers went from 15-1 in Ben's rookie season, to having to make a mad scramble just to make the playoffs (and winning the Super Bowl) after starting out 7-5 the next season, to collapsing to a very frustrating 8-8 the next season. A similar thing happened after we won the Super Bowl with Tomlin. We started off the next season struggling, then we righted the ship to get to 6-2 ... and then came the disastrous 5 game losing streak that ended our season early.

I don't know if it's something in the air or the water in Pittsburgh, but this team and most of its players tend to get fat and happy way too easily. The moment things start to go their way, this team turns on the cruise control.

It's hard to call this franchise underachievers when we've won 2 Super Bowls and been to a 3rd in the past decade ... but it's also hard not to when you see the wild swings in performance. Stuff like that shouldn't happen to a team with a franchise QB, and Dick LeBeau, and all the individual talent we've had around here during that span, but it did, and it continues to now that the talent is thinning.
