it doesn't always work out that you just put someone else in the game. ben forces that throw in that got picked, should the coach have said ben you didn't execute as I've taught you so gradkowski go in.

I think you know that's a silly analogy. My point is that coaches are responsible for execution, particularly over time. If coach in the league ever took the position that he had no responsibility for how his players execute his scheme, I think he'd be unemployed pretty quickly.

Just how much can a coach do to teach execution? It's football 101, only so many ways you can pound that into someones head. I think scheme is more fitting of your argument.

Precisely my point and clearly your point as well BF. Should coaches go onto the field and say " Ok you stand here and do this when the ball comes your way" lol

It is basic football and coverage and more to do with players executing what has been practiced week in and week out. DL can draw up the plans and explain it to the personnel but at the end of the day it's up to the players to execute. Clearly they did so in the first half of the Cleveland game, after which they decided to give up

It's both Blast. For execution of basic fundamentals like blocking, tackling, etc. The responsibility falls on the position coaches. For developing the scheme and game plan, it's the coordinator. For installation and execution of the scheme and game plan I.e. making sure every player is on the same page with who does what under certain calls and in reaction to certain looks by the offense, it's both. Ive seen issues on all 3 fronts against tempo. Really, when you give up 24 points in under 20 minutes, there are all kinds of things going wrong. I would elaborate more, but I'm typing on my phone. Hopefully that's enough to clarify what I mean.

who's to say the coaches didn't do the right things? the gameplan seemed to work well for a half.

the coaches don't just change their whole approach because LT over runs a few plays, or guys miss tackles, or d-linemen can't get off a block, or gets held on each particular play. changing your scheme at that point is the furthest thing you want to do. you hope the players execute like the coaches have drawn it up and how they have taught them to play each situation.

again a lot of this leads back to them playing together for more than one half of football. new players mixed into this defense do not react as did guys that were on the field together for many years. let's face it, we don't have Woodley, harrison, farrier, foote, clark, aaron smith and casey anymore. LT gets out of position the last couple of years. whether he's overcompensating for shazier this year and Williams last year, I don't know but it sure seems like it.

we can look at every level of the defense and see new. d-line, LB'ers (inside and out), DB's and that's just the defense. they don't coach them to play it like they did, trust me. you also don't change what we have practiced for in this game.

there was not a lot of footage to go by even on the browns tendencies in this one. they have new players everywhere that we haven't really seen before. game one is not the one to have your full arsenal available with so many unknowns about your players and theirs and how they play in certain situations. you don't do that mid game. sure it's easy to sit there as a fan and watch it and say change what you are doing.
