"They" is not a person. I'm wondering who the actual run stopping specialist on this roster is. I have still not heard any single poster answer that question. We know who our "hands" guys are. We know who are good open field tacklers are. We know who our good pass defenders are. I'm just asking the question of "who" on this roster is our best defender of the run? "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?" LOL. I mean am I TYPING with my southern accent? HA!

Dude, for real? Its not one person, there is no "I" in team. You think Casey was responsible for the great run defense we had then? You think teams just run up the gut all day long? Well, we do but most teams don't :lolol:

Casey was an absolute run specialist for sure. Also Aaron Smith helped seal the edge. There is no doubt that there are guys that are role players and Casey's main role was to stuff the run. I don't see a guy like that on our team. The "I" there is emphatic. I just feel like it is a fair question to ask someone that doesn't seem that concerned about it and is just writing it off as "youth and inexperience". I absolutely agree with you that we ARE gonna have consistency problems because of youth. But going forward I'm just asking who is the player that you think will step up and be great against the run. It's not really fair to say "there's no I in team" in regards to this question when if I said "who is our best pass defender?" and most would say "Ike" or if I said "who is our most instinctual player?" and most would say "Troy". So then I say "who is our best run defender" and all I'm hearing are crickets. Not just from you. I've not heard anyone provide an answer of who they think can help us the most in the run. Who can be the "guy" as they say?

The question really doesn't make sense to me honestly.

Huh? The question is "who do you think is our best run stopping specialist"? That is a pretty straightforward question I think. What am I missing here guys? LOL.

For clarification TTF I'm talking about the guy that we have on our roster right now. A lot of us have been saying that we miss Casey because of his skills against the run. So basically I guess we are saying who is the "casey" on this current roster? My boy BF was saying that they shut them down in the first half yesterday but do you know the actual ratio of pass/run plays yesterday? I was thinking it was mostly pass plays from Hoyer in the first and don't remember them trying to establish the run as much as they did the pass. Please guys do NOT get me wrong. I TOTALLY understand that we're gonna have a lot of growing pains. All I'm asking is "going forward" who is gonna be the guy that really helps the most in the run game? I think Shazier can help in the pass rush. I think Timmons can drop back in coverage. But I'm just wondering who the run guy is gonna be.

Thats why I am struggling with it and no one else is answering it either :lolol:

Sorry BFT, just don't agree with you that there is a "specialist". If everyone handles their assignments, we'll stop the run just fine, just like they did in the first half.

I'm just using the word "specialist" for emphasis. I just feel like it's an artful dodge to deny that there are guys that have roles and to just say it's a "team" thing. It IS a team thing BUT there are guys with certain strengths and weaknesses. Would you not agree? And btw the reason no one is answering the question about our run d is that we don't seem to have an answer. At least they didn't yesterday. That was a 2nd string ROOKIE rb that was punishing us. The ONLY players on our team that should have been overwhelmed by the "speed" of the game yesterday was mostly Shazier and Jones. MCLendon has been around a while. Timmons has been around a while. Ike has been around a while. Allen has been around a while. Troy has been around a while. DaBeard has been around a while. Worilds has been around a while. Mitchell is a veteran player. The "youth and inexperience" thing can only go so far.

Well, Vince is clearly better against the run then he is the pass.

Well then we needed to get him out there because our run d has looked like hot garbage for way too long. My hope is that McCullers can be our best run defender. I was really glad he made the team and was probably the guy I was cheering the most for and I don't even like college or UT football.

There's some serious denial among some fans. If the Browns hadn't gifted us a 1st down on the fake punt, we lose that game. We didn't recover and win ... the Browns just Browned it.

I would not say Ike is our best pass defender. His body of work historically if counted would certainly indicate he was our best but its past tense now. Sure its been only one game but Ike looked lost as hell. Right now that distinction goes to William Gay

Holding is physical failure. Leaving gunners unattended is plain stupid. Even Landry Jones could've hit that pass ... and even Ike could've caught it.

This is funny, so when the Steelers do good things, like that fake punt, its luck. Ok.

Don't give them any credit for noticing the Browns mistake and making a gutsy call and changing the outcome of the game. Got it.

Don't recall seeing him but that was just a little tongue in cheek because I know thats not who BFT is looking to for an answer :lolol:

Come to think of it, don't remember seeing Garvin out there either.

Ike can't catch a cold, I've seen him drop balls much easier then that! Someone could walk up and place the ball in his hands and he'd drop it.

When Bell runs through a maze of defenders ... that's doing a good thing. When the opposing team decides to leave an eligible receiver uncovered ... an eligible receiver cleverly camouflaged as an eligible receiver ... that's all on the opposing team.

Ike has 14 career interceptions. He does occasionally catch the ball. It's just that conditions (the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligns with Mars) have to be just right.

TOMLIN??? TOMLIN???????? YOU WILL AT ONCE GIVE CREDIT TO THE GREAT DANNY SMITH!!! LOL!!! The play was well executed and set up perfectly. One thing I've thought though is that I'm not sure if it was there as a show of faith in our special teams or a lack of faith in our defense. Remember last year in the San Diego game when Tomlin said he called a certain play because "our defense hadn't showed that they could stop anybody"? I thought of that yesterday and thought maybe that was his train of thought in the game Sunday. Tomlin DID say that it reversed field position which still translated in to success overall but I don't think his actual original intent was to reverse field position but to spark the offense to go score and put the game away. I also wonder if it wasn't a clever way to keep the d from getting gashed again? I'm glad he let Golden make the play regardless of his reason though.

I think its all those things. First and foremost, go on to score if possible, if they cant do that at least it buys our defense some more time and flip the field so we don't get gashed again.

I totally believe we lose that game had they just punted it away there, thats why I give the coaching staff credit and the players too for pulling it off.

Oh, I'm sorry, I mean Danny "can't fit anymore gum in my mouth" Smith.
