Not sure I'd be happy with that. Gay is doing great with how he's being used, not sure how he would do asked to cover the #1. I'd rather see Shark get a chance, when he gets healthy.

I voted for no stupid penalties, pressure from our front seven and our DB's to be prepared. To me it seems Baltimore really gets us on the play action where the defense is perusing the zone blocking thinking run. I think its a nightmare for our d, Leech is a good receiver and flacco likes to hit him and pitta for short gains on these plays to set up the deep ball. I'm concerned with our corners matching up with their WR's so I feel we need to get pressure on flacco and try not to over persue on those cutbacks in the running game.

I remember being pretty frustrated over the past couple of years where they would just air it out and get the PI as our guys try to defend against it. I know there was griping about this being a ploy esp given the new favoritism towards offence. I know you are talking about something different but that's what keeps popping into my head when I think about big plays.

Anyone think we'll see more of this kind of antic with the passer-friendlier rules in place? Or am I deluding myself as to how big of a problem this is/will be (and whether Flacco&Co are any worse about it than other teams).

I don't think there's any doubt they will try to put the ball in the air to get a call. I think flacco said last year that they have ways of practicing to get the PI call. With the way Ike is always grabbing and hooking I think it's going to be a problem and Ike will be tested.

Yep, this is something we need to have an answer for.

I voted for pressure/stop the run, but I don't think the running game will be that much of an issue. Making Flacco release quickly (hence preventing the long bombs) is perhaps more key.

If the refs start calling PI every time a ball is thrown more than ten yards, then I would insert Martavis Bryant into the WR2 position and have him run straight down the field and throw the ball vaguely in his direction on every play.

Or if you just want to throw the ball towards a guy that can't catch we should just insert Ike at WR for the play you are talking about. LOL.

Ike would still pick up a flag for trash-talking as he was running, though...

How about all of the above are keys to victory. If the Steelers can get this victory the Ravens are just about done for their chances of winning the division, they would start the season 0-2 in the division.

I said special teams and field position. To elaborate, we've got to have our "12th man", Coach T, properly positioned on the field to help out our special teams. He's our secret weapon. ;)

I'm surprised there's not more love for winning the turnover battle, especially given that we've had a negative TO ratio for our back to back 8-8 seasons.

I didn`t notice that I could pick three, so, I just picked "4qtrs of STEELER football"...
I assumed that meant old school Steeler football, as opposed to RECENT Steeler football.;)
No stupid penalties/mistakes... Get the lead, and kill the clock with sustained drives, that end in the endzone, instead of thru the uprights for 3pts, and, physically kick their ass for 4 quarters!!!
I have to agree with Ray`s point, at the beginning of the thread...
"If it`s working, STICK WITH IT!!!"
Also, I have a bad feeling about the Craven`s habit of chucking deep balls, looking for the flag.
It`s bound to work better than usual, given the new "point of emphasis", and there`s really not much we can do about it, short of being too careful, and pretty much conceding the catch...
    Although that works both ways.
Contrary to popular opinion, we HAVE been the benefeciaries of those flags in the past, too, just not frequently...
If they wanna play that game, we can, too...
Although I much prefer to just punch `em in the mouth, and run `em over, to set up the play-action, and short screens/slants!
We don`t always have to run right up the middle to hammer `em.
Off tackle works well too, esp, with Bell developing patience for his blocking, and having great vision for when to abandon the original hole, and go where they aren`t!
I would LOVE to see Bell and Blount have monster yards against them... It would just make the passing game easier, and better!
    GO STEELERS!
    EDIT:
P.s., Where was "better tackling/stop the run", in this poll?
Just Because we won`t face Rice, that wasn`t a consideration?
I think they brought in another good rb, knowing they would be without the wifebeater, for at least 2 games...
The Clown`s 2 rookies made us look stupid the 2nd half of that game.
And that has been a very disturbing, and ongoing trend the last couple of years....
I believe it has been discussed in other threads, and it SHOULD BE!!!
I actually had to mention that, to my "son-in-law", during the 2nd half of the Clown`s game...(He had texted some Clown friends in the 1st half, about "Can`t Cleve tackle?!.. I pointed out that we missed a couple at the beginning of he game, then, the 2nd half happened...)
    These ain`t yer Daddy`s Steelers!
NO ONE would even try to run on us for years!
I can`t pin it on missing Smith and Hampton, or should I?
I never saw McCullers in the game.
I did see McClendon pushing Alex Mack Back, a few times, but didn`t see him stuff a runner.
    Maybe I just missed it?
(I am a fan of McClendon, and I thin McCullers is raw, but we gotta do SOMETHIN to stop the run...)
    Maybe "Make Tackles"?
Troy`s not even immune to this...
I saw him fly-by at least one back in the backfield...
    Basics, Boys...
    Wrap em up!

Tomlin trips Jones again. I think this game all hinges on whether coach is on his game or not. I hope he's been watching lots of film to learn their sideline tendencies so he won't be out of position when it comes time for him to step up/in/out to make the big play for us! BE ON YOUR TOES COACH!
