I totally disagree about not having the pieces in place. Did people really think there wouldn't be growing pains this season? You watch, when that defense gets to gel more, they will be shutting opponents down like they did in the first half.

Damn! Hahahahahaha and that's dobbler with 2 b's not doobies. Hahahahahaha

yesterday was almost an epic meltdown. Always nice to get the win for sure, but I think we will see some growing pains without a doubt. If it takes last second heroics to get to the post season, I'll be okay with that. Long season and a lot of time for the boys to gel and the baby boys to narrow their wide eyes and get up to speed.

I'm sure there will be growing pains. I just don't think we have the personnel to stop the run. We didn't last year and we don't this year. Who do you see as our run stuffer? Just think about how dominant we used to be against the run. We have the same scheme. Why isn't it working as much? I think it is because we don't have the guys to do it. That was a second string rookie punishing us yesterday.

That I don't know. However, he was well past his line when he was breaking tackles at the second level as well. Also their wideouts aren't true number ones either and they were pwning people as well.

Stopped them cold in the first half, didn't they? Same personnel, the difference is the Browns didn't run the no huddle in the first half, once they started doing that, our guys fell apart.

So who do you think is our run stuffer? What I'm afraid of is that we put some stuff on tape in week one that is gonna haunt us all year. That same up tempo offense is what Sanchez used to march down the field as well. I'm not saying a nose would be the be all end all cure but I do think it would help tremendously. We just can't make teams one dimensional like we used to. Also do you think we would have won that game if the clowns had ran that the whole time? Man I bet their fans were killing Pettine for not running that offense the whole game.

I don't think McClendon is the problem, TTF and Mac have discredit that notion many times, people don't want to listen though.

As for no huddle, I guess they felt their game plan would work and it was out of desperation to try something different after halftime. Hard to say if we would have lost had they opened the game with that, I'd like to think we'd collect ourselves at half time and make adjustments.

All this slander! Some folks owe me some cold ones if I venture into their necks of the woods. Hahahaha

anyhow, maybe the D needs to face a heaping load of no huddle in practice? Only remedy I can think of. It's gonna happen, more teams are doing it and after the tape, you can bet your bippy they'll be adding some of it.

I'm as guilty as anyone but it is easy to overreact to week 1. The Steelers lost their first two games in 1989 51-0 and 41-10 to the Browns and Bengals and still made the playoffs.

Don't misunderstand me about McLendon. I've always been a fan of his and don't consider him a "problem". I just don't consider him the run stuffer that Casey was. There's just absolutely no denying that we are not effective against the run like we once were. We weren't last year either. What do you think is the reason for it?

Yeah I'm not a "sky is falling" kind of guy. I'm just saying what I think a problem might be. I honestly think our d has been on a downward grade for a while. It's not just something that started yesterday. It is just gonna take time for us to get back to where we used to be. I think Shazier is gonna be really good. I think Tuitt is gonna be really good. I'm really not sure about JJ. I wish Allen would have a little more speed. His hands are actually pretty good. We just don't have a lot of depth and that's really my biggest concern.

Like I said, the no huddle confused them badly, couldn't make substitutions, weren't lining up right and generally had no idea what was coming.

Not being able to shed blocks and make tackles is part of the problem too.

But do you think we are gonna be generally good against the run this year? That is what I consider our biggest weak point. There are many weak points but I consider that the weakest. It's not even necessarily that we have "bad" players. We just have a lot of "unproven" players. I don't mean that as a slight against them at all. We THINK Shamarko can be good but the jury is still out on him. We THINK Jones can be good but the jury is still out on him as well. I just do not see an answer for the run on our d line. I'm open to listening to anyone that can tell me who the answer is.

Yeah, given the way the last couple of years have started, the anomaly yesterday was probably the way the FIRST half went. We seemed to be playing from behind so much to start last year, the huge lead was a bit of a shock. It's clear there is still a lot of work to do, but so many games last year were on the razor's edge, that escaping with the win may well be huge later in the year (we weren't escaping with wins last year it didn't seem). I flew out from the West to watch the game, and having just re-watched it, there's an awful lot to be excited about.....receivers stepping up and making plays, taking chances on special teams at the absolute right time, defense coming up with big plays when they HAD to (maybe not UNTIL then, but...), Tomlin engaged and charged up on the sideline when the game was on the line, fairly good clock management and field presence at the end of both halves, and playing at least one complete half of kick-a$$ football (yeah, we need 60 minutes, but it was good to see 30).

I would still recommend going to Costco and getting the industrial size of Tums for the rest of the year, for it's clear if you can be outscored by Hoyer and his back-up RB's 24-3 at home in a half, then Houston we have a problem....but time for this new group may heal some wounds, and it's not like the rest of the league doesn't have its problems (although the thought of playing Denver or Seattle right now feels like a 'bet the house' moment.....and not in the GOOD way). We're Steelers fans, baby....if you don't have a cast iron stomach by now, you haven't been watching very long.

Yeah yesterday I was like "yes! i'm FINALLY gonna get to just enjoy a WHOLE game for once!" Then the second half started and I was like "no I'm not". Near heart attacks have just became par for the Steelers fans course.

Again, they stopped them cold in the first half didn't they? They have the personnel to do it, they just need experience and to do it consistently.

There are definitely still holes. One thing beyond the defense was that Hoyer played a heck of a game. He didn't turn it over and didn't panic.
