I see your point to an extent, but it can't be said that getting rid of punters has been a problem for Tomlin before...

I think Colbert would have some input on upgrading as well. I'm sure he is paying close attention to the roster moves of other teams right now.

I'm surprised we are in this same position though. We need a big time punter, I would never be mad taking a chance of drafting one in the 6 or 7th round.

Exactly, though I doubt we'll be happy with that position once again!

    I stand corrected

Tomlin drafted a punter in the 4th rd his 1st yr

he had all intentions of punting

    dammit

If our line is gonna stay so crappy maybe we can just cut the majority of our line and keep about 6 punters on the roster? Just use the guy with the biggest leg when you are the deepest in your own territory and use a pooch guy to reverse field position and so on. Could be a solution.

Open tryouts. Why not give it a shot? What can it hurt? There has to be someone out there better you would think.

Didn't we get Suisham in an open tryout? I know it was a pretty spur of the moment signing seems like.

I like it ..Our new secret weapon the punt game with a golf bag full of punters..

What would you use here john ? I think go with #4 nah with the wind I think maybe the # 3...Heck they have a good return guy ,why not go with the #1 and punt it out of the end zone..lol

It's the spread special teams offense!

One thing I always wondered, partially because I'm not a kicker, is why aren't there guys that can do both? Roster spots are pretty valuable. It would seem to me that a guy that could punt and placekick would have a place on a lot of teams.

We got Jeff Reed in an open tryout. I've long held that we're lazy when looking for Ks & Ps. We should have an open tryouts every damn year. And while we're at it, use the practice squad for something useful by keeping a developmental K & P around.

Because placekicking at this level is a specialized skill that you don't want to screw with.
