Welcome back Deisel!!! I am excited about this because his ledarship is needed. I think he can and will mentor the rookies and retire a steeler! If he does retire at the end of this season I would like to see him drive the tractor to camp one last time.

If this is the case, I'm less excited about him returning. I want to see the starting DL be Heyward-Mac-Tuitt at some point this season with Thomas and Keisel subbing in at times. If he is the starter, it keeps Tuitt and Thomas off the field (both of whom I think will be positive contributors this season). I am hoping he is just here to make sure our back up DE's weren't a stable of 3 rookies in Tuitt-McCullers- Mauro. I guess we will see.

    YES!!!!:beard::rawk:!!!
I am unashamed in my Man-Crush on Keisel!!!:herewego!:
    This is NOTHING but good!!!:clap::aikido::swordsman::dfense:!!!
Now that I`ve got that outta my system, let me be the 1st to say,
I didn`t hear that he was gauranteed a starting role...
In today`s NFL... you GOTTA have "ROLE PLAYERS", to come off the bench...(rotation, depth, rotation, depth, etc... Keep em all fresh!!!!)
And that`s exactly what he will be, IF our "starters" get hurt, or "winded"...or "FAIL"..(I don`t see that happening, but it COULD)..
Goes back to the days, when our Steelers had talent on the bench, that would start for other teams.
We don`t have that anymore, but, we just brought back one, that could!!!
When I heard he was interviewing in Arizona, I just assumed he would go there, and I wouldn`t of begrudged him that right...
But, apparentley, when push came to shove, the Rooney`s didn`t wanna let him go.
I think they made the right choice!!!
Keisel, is gonna help keep everyone else, on the D-line, fresh, and remind them how hard it is to get to the Superbowl, and what it takes to get there!!!
There won`t be any "OH Well, we will get better next week", with him and Peazy, in the meetings!!!
    Welcome back, Brett!!!:herewego:
It would be too much too ask, to get Harisson back, too, but, it would be sweet!!!
Tell me all you want about how this would "hold back" the younginz.....
It`s just gonna make `em better, and give us a better back up, if they get hurt!
Way to go, Rooneys!!! HERE WE GO STEELERS!!! HERE WE GO!!!:herewego!:

I gotta say, my gut reaction was mixed. Love what he brings off the field and in spirit, but I think at this point in his career I'd rather see Tuitt (who will be a monster) and Thomas (who has looked better than I expected). I still think he'd be good depth and good for rotation, but I really hope they're not planning on making him the #1 guy at either side. I know he'll want to compete, but I hope all parties will be okay letting him ride the pine, if that's what's best.

I see a lot of rotation happening. Keeps our D-line fresh. Doesn't force the young guys to be "the man" too fast.

Brett will get a lot of playing time. Enough to not be considered a backup. But I think you'll see plenty of the others equally, especially as the season progresses.

Is it bad of me to always get distracted at your posts whenever I see them because they look like poems or lyrics to songs?

Definitely mixed reactions from me. I love Keisel. He has always kind of been t he face (and beard) of the defense for me. I am all for giving Tuitt more time and I know Cam Thomas is more of a DE/NT who probably isn't a true starter.

Where I lament is for guys like Mauro and Arnfelt. If we can keep them around somehow, whether its on the 53 or PS, that's fine, but I think both have great futures ahead of them.

I was really hoping for this because Bret Keisel is my favorite player and that is where my screen name comes from. I didn't care for the Thomas signing as it didn't make sense because he wasn't actually great with the chargers and we have young talent waiting in the wings. While I did want Keisel to return I agree that he wasn't worth a large contract but if the price was right he would be great in a rotation role. I think he is perfect for Tuitt to learn from, and I'll bet this is not only for depth but to light a fire under some guys and while I'll admit he is old, he looked to be pretty good last season, I think this is a win-win deal for him and the Steelers and I can't wait until preseason is over, I'm holding my breath every preseason game hoping none of the starters get seriously injured.

I think this makes us better in 2014, but we risk either stunting the growth of some promising young guys, or losing them altogether if they get poached from the PS ( Mauro, Arnfelt or Williams). However, if the casualty here is Cam Thomas, I am less concerned as I didn't like the signing at all, and haven't seen anything that makes me want to keep him around. So... I guess you can chalk me up as another with mixed feelings.

Well we can't keep them all and the rooks are still unproven. I think it was a good signing. He brings alot of experience to this team and can help the youngins

Yup. I could be wrong, but I don't think Arnfelt has seen much playing time, not a good sign, he's probably a cut. Mauro has been showing promise but I'll feel much better going into the season with Keisel then Mauro. Tuitt is the future, and he'll get plenty of playing time.

It was certainly my first thought. But does that mean Thomas gets cut? Or is he going to turn into Fangupo mark II?

I'd like to see them keep Mauro and Williams around, although I'm basing that more on hope and expectation rather than a solid evidence base.

It's official. The team announced the signing. It's a 2 year deal. Al Lapuaho has been waived to make room for the addition.

Two year deal? Kinda surprised by that, but who knows. Someone's gotta go now though. Who? As other's have mentioned, I think they know what they have (or don't have) in Thomas. He's got to be the odd man out, one would think.

I have no problem with Keisel...for his age he probably doesnt have the wear and tear on him as some near that age might (as he hasn't been a career long starter/etc). I'm not happy nor mad they brought him back as I've had the gut feeling for months they would. I was liking some of what I was seeing from the young guys on the DL and hope this doesnt hurt that...or they loose a promising young guy because of this. While he's here hopefully the young guys do soak up everything they can from him though and learn.

From reports I'm hearing, Cam Thomas hasn't been that impressive.

With the emergence of McCullers as a possible roster spot (primary NT, DE in a pinch), you wonder if this signing doesn't replace Thomas and his money on the salary cap books. I think we would take some dead money with the Thomas deal, but not that much.

I have been pretty encouraged by the play of Tuitt, McCullers and Mauro this preseason. I think all three could make the roster (not so sure about Arnfelt, who has been losing snaps).

Obviously, play of the DE's (Thomas, Tuitt, Mauro and Arnfelt) has encouraged the Steelers to make a move.

The other possibility is this move has always been in our plans and the contract offer by Arizona spurred the decision to up our contract offer from a 1-year, minimum deal to a 2-year deal with some signing bonus. Keisel gained some leverage with the Dockett injury.
