I was hoping for positive things from the Behemoth, but didn't make any noise in camp. Agree with the article he get's playing time tonight the coaches wants this to work. He has a structure teams envy.

Play this guy into the ground all preseason long. He needs the reps to improve. He won't get many reps in the regular season so you don't need to worry about him staying fresh, and frankly, he could use the exercise. It'll help his endurance, which could wind up being an issue if he ever becomes a starter.

I don't dislike Fangupo, but it was absolutely a mistake keeping him over Ta'amu. I've known that since the day it happened, as have a lot of us. My gut feeling is that the coaches know that too now, and probably have for a long time.

I haven't seen enough of Fangupo to know one way or the other, but McCullers' size alone makes you root for him. From what I know of McCullers, John Mitchell is the best coach for him. I liked what he said about that in the article:

Of course, Mitchell is also never shy about telling his players what they need to do to get better, and McCullers is no exception.

He got a full dose of Mitchell at training camp.

"It doesn't matter if it's on the field, off the field, when you walk into the elevator, he's always going to be on you," said McCullers, who was the second of the two sixth-round picks that the Steelers selected in the 2014 NFL draft. "It did take a little getting used to but I had to adjust. That's just how he is. You need that in a coach to be on you and make sure you do everything right because he wants you to be perfect."

I've been (silently) pimping Fangupo for the last two years. I thought this guy was pretty much a Hampton clone and could have excelled in this defense.
Boy was I wrong. I watched him as much as I could in the first game. He's not very good at all. When the play isn't directly in front of him he gives up almost immediately. And, another thing that really got under my skin for some reason is his jersey was riding up all night and he didn't even bother pulling it down.

Glad to hear McCullers wants to work on his craft.
At his size, "getting the pad level down", might be difficult, but he can probably make up for it with strength, and effort...
He has a lot of potential, in short yardage situations, on both sides of the ball,
And if he is at NT, the offense, almost HAS to double team him!
I hope we keep the Beast!

You gotta keep McCullers over Fangupo all day long. Pre season will confirm or deny that though.

Dave Butz was a good NT for the Redskins in the 80's and he was
6 ft 7 in so it can be done.

I want him to make the 53, he can tie up two blockers to free up the LBs.

Yup, you cannot single him! He will destroy most guys one on one. Looks like they have to double him to get him off the line. That alone makes him better than Fangupo.

If Ben goes down I'm thinking Wildcat with Mr. Dan if I'm Haley or Tomlin.

He had a chance to make a play in the backfield on the runningback and missed the tackle.

I don't think McCullers makes it. He's way too raw, and doesn't have enough natural talent to make up for it.

Really?! I hope you're wrong here. He's already shown more talent and the ability to be coached than they expected! His technique isn't that bad and he hasn't really been out of position at all. The giants had to double team him with a chip by the RB! You can't coach Man-strength!

Really? I think he's got unique qualities, and I also think he's been surprisingly good at the weaker spots of his game (mobility, quickness, etc.).

For a 6th round comp pick, I think he's got tons of potential. He's a big raw prospect, he's had barely any practice, and he already looks half decent. In a year or two he could be a force. Even right now he could be a force in certain situations. And considering there's absolutely nobody else worth that roster spot, why not keep him?

There's no way he makes it through waivers with what he's shown he can do with just a little coaching this year.

He is a project, but if they keep him
motivated and he shows some improvement
he could help us out.You can't teach big.
Nata (sp?) type with out the mobility?

You can't really be thinking a about 2 year developmental projects when you're trying to win games. If you are a high pick you may get a scholarship year, but as a late pick, there's little chance of that.

And btw, I think that with 2 years of great coaching, he'd still look pretty much the same as now. He's kind of a defensive version of Mike Adams in that they both have fatal flaws that I just don't see going away. McCullers plays too straight legged, which negates his size/strength assets, makes him clumsy, and gets him blown up on a routine basis. It's a leverage game for him, and he has trouble getting and maintaining any.

Yeah but has he shown enough to make the 53? Different positions but I would keep Mauro on the 53 over McCullers he's too raw, Mauro looks like he could be a backup DE.
