To shift back to the QB topic... I finally had a chance to watch the end of the game, and I thought Jones looked decent in the 2 minute no huddle offense. Take away 2 drops and the #/^& fumble by Bryant, and who knows what happens. There's a lot of preseason left to go, but right now I would peg Jones as the #2 and Grad as the #3 or even being cut at the end of camp depending on who else is made available.

Jones for the short haul worries me.. if he don't have the clean pocket he surrenders under pressure he needs to get rid of the ball and not fall into high risk for interceptions. Also his checkdowns are dangerous, he's no Ben when having to improvise or Grad for that matter but better. Grad has his own set of issue lack of reps. would be one. Please not Jones@ 2 yet A Strong line~ no huddle we shouldn't have to disturb them :lolol:

Not so sure about that Dobbler. Below are Munchaks comments regarding Adams

LATROBE, Pa. -- Mike Munchak gave Mike Adams solid marks for his play in the Steelers’ first preseason game but also acknowledged that the third-year offensive tackle is in a different battle than had been expected when training camp opened.

The chances of cutting a 2nd rd pick going into his 3rd season is near nil.

Not to mention he's been improving. I'd be shocked if they let him go now. It's not like anyone behind him is lighting it up. I suspect they will give Munch a year to work with him.

:goodpost:Agree 100% with yinz Blast. Adams is going to get every chance to make this team. Which I think he deserves and will. I like the kid.

but at who's expense bens? it's a darn shame that even anyone behind him is not playing to his level. don't we deserve a better LT? doesn't ben deserve a better LT? why all these guys that are showing some potential? can't we get a guy that we don't have to work years on to be semi competent? this just amazes me with such an important position. why do we have 4 tackles below the standard?

Well Mac we did need to get our D younger. So we used our draft picks to do that. Adams was selected in RD2 last year...He was projected as a top 10 pick before his pot smoking became known. I believe we got a great deal on him in round 2.He promised to stay off the pot. So far he has lived up to that. Lets give the guy a chance. I think he will be a very good LT given the chance.

I don't think Ben is in any grave danger when Adams plays, we obviously differ on our opinion of him. When he played Miami, he kept a red hot Oliver Veron in check and did a pretty good job Sat (again we differ on that). I think he's getting better.

As I said before on this issue, Coaches and QB's talk up what they got. Everyone knows that. I hope Adams gets it together, but outside of altering a game plan to give him help to look honestly average enough to play, he's not cutting it. I know coaches know more than we do it's silly to assume they don't. And maybe Munch thinks he has something to work with, but as of what I saw from him... He's not even close to being (as Gilbert has been referenced) inconsistently decent at this point. Sure, 1 out of 5+times he'll look decent with or without the help, but against 1's and scrubs he's leaves much to be desired. Hes had some moments as have whimper and Wallace etc... I'm not personally confident in him, but I'm hoping he'll change my mind. A lot of folks were screaming about Adams blowing things but then a ranking report and a coach comment comes out and then the backwards double negativity starts hitting. I've seen what I've seen for 2 years and now a pre season game in tow. I ain't buying him at LT. Again, as I've said before over and over I'm rooting for him and I think he has the tools. However, I don't know that his mind or his heart will help him put them to use. While you may not be so sure about that Dobbler guy, that Dobbler guy is pretty sure that we're all tired of coach talk and QB talk about personnel on the O line. As far as words go, we've had the best O line in the biz when it comes to talk.

I agree . I think that after the top 3 or so in the draft the talent level drops off a cliff. We don't shoot for the top players at that spot and if we don't we will never have 1 IMO.

The bigger Question IMO is with Ben's style of play if we had the best LT in the world would he still look average in front of Ben ?

Adams isn't going to be a good LT we saw that last season when he got benched, his only chance is to play RT.

The counter to Ben's "style" will be the no huddle and a dominant run game for 2014

when we talk about adams getting better, it's like we are talking about a 5th or 6th round pick. same as gilbert. ok, we are seeing slight improvement, maybe, but we are talking 2nd round picks here. guys expected to step in and play right off the bat. le'veon bell is a 2nd rounder. we don't talk about him improving slightly. that's how a 2nd rounder should look.

neither adams or gilbert look LT ready and we are into year 3 and 4. that's what they were drafted to do not be guys we need 5 years to improve. not PS players we hope some day will be at least average.

yes I do worry about ben if adams has to start. it's not just adams either, our tackles are just not very good. what are the coaches going to say? if the players keep stinking and the coach says yea these guys are bad, how would that reflect on them as coaches? we shouldn't still be at this point with 2nd round picks.

Myron, you talk about landry jones as a 4th round pick as a waste, yet adams as a 2nd round pick as having high hope for the kid and you like him. you seem to want to give him time, but not jones. yet jones isn't expected to start and adams is. I just don't get that.

No use crying over spilt milk, that's who they picked and now its on them to develop them, they should just throw them out because they aren't producing fast enough for a 2rd pick? And lets not compare OT to RB, RB is one of the easiest positions to come in and contribute to immediately. And not all 1st and 2nd rd picks always hit the ground running, you want them too but that is certainly not always the case, what is important is that they do eventually. If Gilbert continues to look like he has turned the corner and Adams takes another season to do so, who cares, they will still have plenty of years left, Gilbert is 26 and Adams is 24.

The NFL is a much different animal then college, takes some people longer then others to hit their stride, people were down on Heyward too, and I don't want to hear about who was in front of him, he certainly wasn't lighting it up with the opportunities he was getting. If Adams goes into beast mode next year like Heyward did last year, does it really matter that it took him 3 years? Not to me, I'd just be happy that they finally have their LT of the future.

AMAZING BREAKTHROUGH! Landry Jones was quoted after the game " Do you want ketchup with that". Steelers may be saved further embarrassment it this is true.

Grad looked bad but after seeing Landry, he's starting to look better to me.

Adams, sheeesh. All this talk of where they're drafted. Who cares? All I want is a competent lineman that doesn't take years, not to mention millions of $s, to learn the basics. Those feet!

when will we see kay? I'm not ready to give up on any of them with the way the line was playing, but jones has to show some improvement soon.

whimper- adams at LT, not much difference. whimper wasn't perfect but held his own on that side. I want to see munchak's Johnson tried there at some point.

oh, my bad, adams had a good game. < green font.

I think the problem was Adams was never a 2nd round pick. He should of been drafted in the 5th or beyond. They will never admit they made a mistake drafting him as high as they did but he definitely should not be looking like he is as 2nd round value.
I see us drafting more olineman next year.

I think this year with so much talent I think the steelers should hold on to, why not go with just 2 qb's and cut Jones.

Ben misses games here and there, but (knock on wood) we never have lost him for a big stretch. Veteran back ups are out there still. I don't love Kyle Orton as a starter, but I think he would be a fine backup in a pinch. I don't believe he has a team right now?

Did someone say Adams had a good game last night? What's with the trolling? Tonight and today with that. If he had a bad game, he had a bad game. I haven't had a chance to watch him closely yet, personally.

People thought he had a bad game last week too, doesn't really mean much. I'll make up my own mind when get to look at the game more.
