I didn't see a thread on this ,but how will the new rules of PI effect our current Team and our Team moving forward ?

It's been a flag fest so far and it seems to me the Offense is getting another huge advantage. How do they expect Teams to guard or defend the TE'S ?

Will the TE position become the most powerful position in the NFL ?

IMO if the league keeps calling the game the way they have started this season there is no doubt every Team will want 2 Vertical type TE'S .As a former High School Coach I have always taught guys to be aggressive when guarding the TE spot and it appears to me the rules have all but took that away ?

The NFLs getting exactly what they want by changing the rules to favour the passing game. We will see what the outcome is on the changes in PI calls but you can be sure
there will be plenty of calls made until players adjust to the new rules.

I seem to remember saying in a thread after the Seahawks won the superbowl, that they won't be making a return because the league will clamp down on the way they pushed the limits of the PI rule. So even though Seattle are one of the more popular teams with fans precisely because of their aggressive defense, the fans are denied that... but anyway.

I agree the rules are playing to the benefit of the receiving TE. Mind you, they were already becoming a fairly powerful position before the rule changes.

This is why I'm pleased we've got guys like Spence and Shazier who should match up well against them.

In my view the way the NFL is clamping down on PI and contact beyond 5 yards will be benefit us. Our small, quick receivers should have more freedom of movement to make their breaks and achieve separation beyond 5 yards downfield. One of my concerns before the clamp down was that we didn't have a particularly physical receiving corps, and that the way the NFL enforced the rules last season it was difficult for our guys to get separation against bigger, physical defenders. No more. Also, on defense we are less reliant on press man coverage, and while I think every defense will see its share of the penalties, the press man defenders who tend to make more downfield contact will be most impacted. Just my 2 cents.

really the rules haven't changed, it's just that they are going to enforce them as they should have. I'd love to see some more turnovers from this D. it has to start to show up or we could be in deep doo.

I want so bad for Seattle to fall on their face this year, so sick of hearing about them. This will definitely affect their game.

With the odds of repeating a SB and this rule should help keep their horses corralled.

The Steelers could struggle because their CBs are average at best, one of these days they will draft a stud CB instead of all these late round scrubs lol.

What Carroll has done with late pick db's is phenomenal, however I believe that it has to do more with his monster front 7

We could always go back to Arian ball, and just chuck it deep, hopin for the P.I. flag!
Just Kidding!!!! I think we are on the right track...
This offense could be scary good, with a balanced running/screen attack, Ben hitting slant/crossing routes, and throwing it deep just enuff to keep `em honest!
Ben`s always been great at play action fakes, as well.
When we get a running game the defense has to respect, that just opens up more, as well...
And Haley doesn`t seem to mind throwing in a "gadget play", once or twice a game either...
Old Schoolers, might not agree with it, But, I like to see that a couple times a game. When it works, it`s worth it.
When it doesn`t, it still reminds the D, that we will do that sort of thing once in a while...
I`ve been waiting to see an "Amazing Steelers" offense again, for a long time.
If the rest of the league can take advantage of the rules, and score 30+ points/game... Why the hell can`t we?!?!
I believe the talent is here. Do It!!!
    GO STEELERS!!!:herewego::herewego!:

True Carroll has some late round guys they found and they're making the Pro Bowl, big difference from the Steelers late round guys.
