Shazier Will Start

Not that 99% of this board didn't already know that....but I thought it was interesting to read that DL has some packages where he is playing Shazier outside and JJ inside. They even talked about the idea of walking all 7 to the LOS. Short read but interesting.

I like the idea of Shazier pass rushing from the outside as well as inside. I hope this is something DL looks at more often. Same with DB blitzes. I hope we see more of that. I think DL has the speed on his defense to pull off more blitzing this season.

 

Shazier brings a dimension to the defense which will allow Lebeau to get creative. Let's hope the execution is a few steps up from the last season or two.

 

My thoughts as well. I think you can blame the last few seasons of lack luster D more so on personnel than on DL.

It would not surprise me to see some 2 DL/5 LBs/4 DBs this year. With the LBs having the speed that they do, putting Spence and Shazier on the field at the same time allows you the size to cover 2 TEs and still have the size and bulk to play the run. It is almost like running a 4/3, except with probably better athletes.

 

Talk about a QB headache. Trying to decide which one is coming and then with the all around speed pick wrong and you are toast... Can't wait to see the mad scientist start dialing up some funky blitzes this year. This might be the fastest LB group we have ever had.

 

Heck, even having LT and Shazier on the field at the same time is going to give us a lot a speed. I like the looks of our ILB corp right now. Imagine the speed with LT, Shazier (at OLB), and Spence all in there together. I could see something like that with Worilds playing the other OLB. Let those AFC QB's try and figure out where that blitz is coming from and stop it.

 

Add to that Troy getting up on the line, and who knows what a QB will think... just as long as we execute...

 

I think Shazier is Brain Urlacker 2014, the irony being Chi town picked right before us in the draft and took what many of us believed was our CB.

With that stated, what DL could do with a fresh Urlacker in his LB core, well one can only imagine but I don't think we'll have to. It's Shazier.

Shazier, if he can stay healthy and on the field was born to play in a DL defense. It's a match and I think DL knows it. IMO

 

I have a problem anointing any rookie the starting job without seeing him in game action. I think it's puts unnecessary pressure on him. I'm not saying I don't like the pick but if he doesn't live up to expectations would we dare start Sean Spence? I know it's only one preseason game and I haven't seen shazier play yet but spence was hitting everything that moved the other night. I guess I need to reserve my opinion until I see shazier play.

 

As I have said in another thread, Dl needs
to figure out how to get Sean Spence and
Shamarko on the field a whole lot more.
These 2 will make us a better football team.

Heard no update on Shazier today.. yesterday was questionable for tomorrow night.

 

Well, Shazier answered the bell last night. Definitely needs to start opposite Timmons. I would definitely fine a way to add Spence on the field.
