Doesn't surprise me about Gilbert, he graded out as our best lineman several times last year, as I have said all along, Gilberts problem is one of consistency. Several people gave props to Gilbert as well, including Tunch, who also praised Adams. I don' think either of those guys, especially Adams will ever get a fair shake with members of this board, it's the Willie Gay effect, there are still people acting like Gay sucks. It's the opposite of "what have you done for me lately" attitude, which is the normal attitude of most fans but with Gay, "it's who cares what you have done lately, its how bad you were 4 seasons ago that matters". I suspect the same would be true for Adams if he can turn things around like Gay did.

What aspect of the grades did you disagree with, Mac?

I haven't re-watched it yet, but I thought Gilbert and Nick Williams both played very well. Given the lackluster camp reports about Nick Williams, he was a very pleasant surprise for me. Looked strong!

That said, I've been known to disagree with PFF and they need to be taken with a few grains of salt. I'll re-watch at some point.

overall, the grades seem pretty fair, although i would disagree with the grades for mauro and mike adams.........
Mauro was active and controlled his area well, while adams was far too inconsistent for me to feel comfortable with him on the field at this time

It's not about feeling comfortable. It's about one game's performance. I didn't pay much attention to him, to be honest, but I didn't really notice him much either, which is a big plus for an OT, and a big deal for Adams in particular.

I don't know about PFF's grades (don't really care about them either), but Adams did well last night. I watched every single one of his snaps, some in slow motion, and he handled himself well. I wouldn't call him inconsistent at all, and I didn't really see anything that would make me feel uncomfortable. It was definitely a far cry from the storyline that's been coming out of camp, and Jason Pierre-Paul is no slouch. I see things he can improve on, but all in all he did well. No hurries, no hits, hardly much pressure to speak of...

I still haven't really examined the tape, but on one viewing, I noticed him mess up a draw-block or two, a little bit. Nothing major, just something he could have done better. But I don't remember seeing him let his guy go to the QB at all... and THAT'S what matters. The rest of the stuff he either has or can get. If he didn't allow any pressure last night, why are we on his case at all? We should be celebrating!

gilbert I don't have a problem with. I thought he had a good game overall.

adams struggled at first and was doing the same thing as before in pass protection. bending at the waist, reaching, off balance, getting himself twisted around. then we started giving him a lot of help on his side. they had him graded as our best lineman. no way.

next was arnfelt as our worst D-lineman. I watched him intently and I know he had 4 tackles in the short time he played. cam Thomas also. he was coming down the line and making tackles where most NT's don't. several of them.

it has nothing to do with what they have done in previous games or years.

Agree 100% mac. I though Adams looked pretty bad myself until they gave him help on his side. I know the Giants played their first string D longer than we did and because of that Adams faced some good competition but I didn't see much of anything promising from him and i've been a fan of his since we drafted him. Not happy with what I saw from Adams at all.

There was a play where JPP got around him, and there was a play late in the game where his effort was a little questionable, but other than that, he he held his own in pass pro. There seemed to be some communication issues between he and Hubbard, but we're not privy to calls and assignments.
Gilbert was their highest graded lineman. I don't know how PFF determines their grades...no one really does. Maybe they comped him a point for getting blocked by Hubbard on that one play.:lolol: I actually almost worked for them once, and went through some of their training, but that's a different story. While I don't disagree about some technique issues, I think you're being overly critical of his performance. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Beachum who struggled pretty mightily at times, and he only played 18 snaps.

 Surely you jest! All pro Beachum, stop. (Sorry, couldn't resist :smiley1:)

Glad you said that though, Beachum is far from a finished product, I'd be much more critical of him if Munch didn't just give him a ringing endorsement. Still, he is a 7th rd pick with limitations, I'm not convinced he's the answer at LT either.

correct, my bad adams was the 2nd rated behind gilbert. I don't see it. he had tons of help and was not nearly as good without that help to start with. I really don't think he played terrible either when he had that help but 2nd highest rating, uh uh, not buying that.

I really didn't think beachum played badly. he seemed to be after it in the run game and I thought played pretty well for all the time he had out there. foster looked slow, but he's missed a lot of practice. not meals, practice.

I don't pay attention to PFF and their subjective grades, I'm sure the teams don't either.

As a whole, I think we're just going to have to somewhat agree to disagree on both counts. I can agree wholeheartedly on Foster not missing any meals, though.

it's all good. I'm just glad we do have him. one heck of an overachiever. we are not talking just a 7th rounder, but the 3rd and last of the 7th rounders that we picked that year.

Good. Apparently I am rubbing people the wrong way today, imagine if I was beating off defenders

Back to Beachum, in the end, I just want the players that give us the best chance to win, whomever that may be :yeehaw:
