Thank you Pjgruden, I am looking for him to top
the 100 million mark, I think his agent will
be steadfast that he atleast gets Flacco money,
My GUESS is he liked the 102 before, lets do it
again but for 4 years.Large signing bonus to help
out cap relief, and a lot of stipulations built in
    to it.

they use the tag all the time. why wouldn't they with a starting qb? worilds and starks have both had it used on them. max had the transition tag and the franchise tag used on him. ben isn't going anywhere for at least those 4 years, now if a trade partner would come along in those last two years ( if it came to that) then they would listen, but they wouldn't just give him away.

playing for the franchise tag is some pretty good pay no matter how you slice it. by then ben would be nearing 37 years old that following season, so who knows how he will be feeling and playing by then. at least they have the tag in their arsenal. I also doubt it comes to that. by that time ben will have made 102 million dollars plus. he's not struggling to feed those new babies and wife. a couple of years after that 102 mil., two franchise years would pay him a good chunk of change too. he would most likely retire at that time. you know , with his then six super bowl rings. :smiley1::cool:

Didn't say they just give him away, just that they won't tag him 2 years in a row, he'd walk after 4 years and they get squat, that would be giving him away for nothing. He's not going to be washed up at 34.

Sign him to 5 years and let #7 retire with 7 rings:dancing:

I would give Ben a 4 year contract extension around 80 million, no 5 year contract or the team could be stuck with a bad contract and a QB almost 40 years old.

Whatever contract they concoct, is most likely gonna hurt the checkbook in the latter stages. Be it 4 or 5 years they give him, either way they'll be talking another extension a couple years in. I hope Ben realizes that the team needs other pieces as well as him and works with them more than what were used to. Don't want anymore Woodley contracts cutting the teams throat, debatedly earned at the signing or not! Ben's paid his dues and hope he keeps the arrow pointing north, but we got a QB and need to shore up other spaces so I hope he realizes that which right now it seems he does, but he ain't at the table at this time.

He's be 38, lots of QB have played to 38 and at a high level. Peyton is 38 and just took his team to the SB and he's had like 5 neck surgeries. I'll worry about the cap in 5 years, who knows how high it will be by then.

    :lolol:

However, I suspect that despite delaying his extension, the Steelers will still want a discount next offseason.

Cincy sure knows how to screw things up.

Could we be looking at a 4 year 90 million dollar contract for Ben next year:hmmm:

You can't really get too worried about Dalton's or Kaepernick's contracts because there are a lot of team organization triggers where the player has to meet certain numbers or the team perform well in the playoffs for the total amount of the contract to be realized. I don't think Dalton's signing bonus was super high by QB standards...something like 12 or 13 million.

I think the Steelers basically are waiting because (1) they already have a number in mind that Ben will be paid and are choosing to push out the salary cap going out another year to see how much extra cash there will be to spend and (2) they want to get some mid-range contracts in place sooner such as Foster (I think?) and Cortez Allen before dealing with the elephant in the room. Ben's contract is going to be a lot different than Dalton's in that it will have a very large signing bonus and a significant amount of upfront money in the first 2-3 years. It is possible that the Steelers will take a page from these new type contracts by applying incentives in later years - that may allow the Steelers and Ben to show a contract that blows others out of the water, but in total is only realized if Ben puts together stratospheric numbers and/or playoff results in the latter part of the contract.

But there is no doubt, Ben and his agent are going to make sure a lot of coin is paid to Ben those first 2-3 years and I wouldn't be surprised if one of those years is structured such that Ben is the highest paid QB in the league for at least one year.

I have been saying it for months - they are going to have to pay Flacco money plus a little more. No way Ben accepts being the third highest paid QB in the division. Any chance for a hometown discount disappeared when the Rooneys wouldn't extend him this offseason. Ben may be saying the right things in public, but you gotta believe he is not happy about it. He will make them pay top rate next offseason unless he gets injured.

they won't let ben hold them hostage either. he's still signed next year anyway. that will be the final year of the contract that made him the highest paid at the time.

he will be here throughout the 2017 season minimum. that's if nothing is done, which I'm sure it will be. if it came to that, then he may get a two year offer. that puts him through 16 seasons. we better have another plan in place at that stage, at least waiting in the wings.

Brady is 5yr/$70 million. Is it to much to hope for something in this range?

2016, there's zero chance they'd let him go into 2017 without a contract or trade.
