lol! No. Not only has Ben not made more money than any player ... there are QBs drafted years after him that have already earned more.

    From the 2004 draft:

    Eli Manning: $115 mil
    Philip Rivers: $101 mil

    Ben: $79 mil

QBs drafted after Ben that have earned more:

    Aaron Rodgers: $88 mil
    Matthew Stafford: $88 mil
    Matt Ryan: $85 mil

Undrafted QBs that have earned more than Ben:

    Tony Romo: $84 mil

That's not the way the franchise tag works anymore. That's one more area where the players got screwed in the CBA.

That's not how it works. If Ben were to retire 4 years into an 8 year deal, Ben would owe the Steelers the unaccounted for portion of his signing bonus. And the unearned salaries disappear from the cap.

Dead money never lasts longer than 2 years.

And vice versa, not extending him somehow turns into redheaded step child.

And the Bears signed Cutler to a 7 year 127 million deal, but these big contracts look huge until you look into how the contracts are written, Kapernicks deal is a good example of a big contract that's team friendly, how to get a team friendly contract with Ben will be interesting to watch....

it's the top cap number of that position for the past 5 years. which goes up with these new salaries.

he has made the most of anyone signing a 100 million dollar contract. maybe that's changed, because eli and rivers have both gotten extensions on their contracts that were less than bens original 2nd contract at the time.

It's not one thing. It's part of a pattern of behavior towards him.

It's a sign of respect due to the fact that he is under contract and the Steelers dont have to tell him anything.

Ben is the first player in NFL history to actual make over 70 million dollars off of one contract. I dont know where you are getting you're numbers but Ben was over 70 million on the contract alone last year and just made another 12 this year and then you have to throw in his contract.

So it's a sign of respect that they didn't respond to his request for a raise with absolute silence?

Where I'm from, when you ask your boss for a raise and he tells you to piss off, it's not considered a sign of respect.

When did he ask for a raise do you have a link to that. The only thing I can remember him saying is that he thought 18 million wqs too much for them to carry this year and that he wasn't worried about it and confident that a deal would get done.

My source is linked in my post. The fact that Ben is the first player to earn $70 million on one contract means nothing more than that Ben is the first player to not significantly fall off after signing a $70+ million contract.

Also just read Ben is at 90 million dollars made of this 102 million dollar deal. I don't know bet many players that make 90 % of the deal. Oh and Rooney said Ben is all but guarnteed to retire a steeler. Yeah some red header step child.

Would he take a raise and asking for one are two different things. Sure he would take one but he hasn't asked for one.

yes. he signed a 102 mil. dollar contract and he is the only player to see over 70 million of that contract. he has two years of that contract left. I have never heard him say I want a raise. he knows a raise will come when the extension of that 102 million dollar contract takes effect, but if he sees it all will be another story. he will and did however see more of that 102 million dollar contract than anyone. which was the highest deal at the time.

The primary point of an extension is the big fat signing bonus and the guaranteed money that comes with it.

That's not possible. Ben is still owed ~ $23.7 mil in base salary on that contract.

    $102 mil - $23.7 mil = $78.3 mil

The 90 is including this year so that leaves 1 year left at 12 million.

I don't see what the big deal is if he doesn't get a new contract this year, it will get done next offseason like Art II said.

especially if he keeps coming to camp leaner and stronger. that's the best he's looked in a long time. the receivers are saying the arm is cocked and loaded. that's a good thing. they keep him clean and we could be scary good on O.

So do we have any side bets of what the Steelers will be offering
when the time comes? Term of contract and value?
