On the screen crawl on NFLN, I keep seeing a quote from Vick where he claims to have started the running QB position?! Has he never heard of Randall Cunningham?

Was he using his Ron Mexico persona at the time? I think that would explain it.

Seriously though, that's a pretty dumb thing for him to say, or even think. Running quarterbacks go back a long way. The guy interviewing him should have immediately said, "Yeah, good thing Tarkenton, Cunningham, and McNair weren't quarterbacks, huh?".

.........or even Garcia. (He was around before Vick, right?) When I first saw him play I thought , for a QB, he's a damned good running back!

To be fair, what Vick said was, "I started it all" meaning the running QB. The only reason Tarkenton doesn't hold the running yardage record for QBs is because most of his running was done behind the LOS. I remember some plays where it seemed he ran around behind the line for 20 or 30 yards!

To me he and Kordell are essentially the same. Running qbs who showed flashes of decency throwing the ball, but couldn't do it consistently enough to be a quality NFL QB.

Kordell might have actually been better at running because he was big enough to not get hurt when he got hit. He was pretty darn fast in his own right. Bobby Biz is spot on. Slash could do this and then throw a game losing INT.

Popular misconception was that he wasn't big or had a weak arm. Not true his problem was decision making....

He definitely had a big arm. The Hail Mary he threw at Colorado traveled 70 yards in the air.

Kordell was a QB that could run like a running back - A 220 lb. RB with 4.3 speed. Vick was a QB that could run like a WR. Big, big difference. Vick might win the 100 yard dash by a step, but I'd say it's a tie for the first 50. Kordell was still usually the fastest guy on the field and one of the fastest in the league. And although Vick was slippery, he couldn't break tackles like Kordell, and he couldn't do it for long without getting hurt. Kordell stayed remarkably healthy throughout his career.

One more difference - I'm not sure if Kordell has ever held a dog by the front legs while his friend held the dog's hind legs and swung it around like a jump rope, slamming it into the ground again and again and again until its body was shattered.

It was at least 74. Maybe more. It went 73 yards downfield, and traveled I'm guessing 8 yards laterally. I'm not a geometry major, but a quick google search tells me it's the square root of a² + b². That works out to... 73 yards, 1 foot, and 4 inches. That's putting him on his own 27 when he threw it, and assuming the ball would have landed on the goal line if it hadn't been tipped.

Always thought he was bigger the way he ran over some of those defenders.
