I thought of that too. He's the least athletic of the bunch, and Munchak loves athleticism. And he certainly hasn't slimmed down at all. Still, I'm not worried about Ramon. Solid, consistent - not worth mentioning. If you think about it, there's reason to discuss all the others. Pouncey's injury. DeCastro becoming an All Pro this year. The tackles in their whole mess. What are you going to say about Ramon? Nothing we didn't know last year. He may have even been answering specific questions, and no one asked about Foster.

Interesting. I'm a little surprised it's not an open competition.

I hope it is. This could be an attempt at boosting confidence in the current starters. Munchak has said Adams is pushing them at both spots. He is the higher investment with a higher ceiling than both of them, and last year he was coming off that stabbing. It would be foolish to do anything but an open competition.

I'd really like to see Adams be the LT, if he's capable obviously. That would give us Beachum and Johnson as utility lineman capable of playing several positions. I think that makes the team stronger overall.

That would be ideal, given his natural abilities and Beachum's versatility. But I think the most likely scenario right now is Beachum holding down LT, earning a long-term contract that we'll give him a year early à la Antonio Brown, and Adams replacing Gilbert after he leaves next year (either by letting him walk or being outbid).

That's my current guess, but it's really all up in the air until we see what kind of progress he made. Excited for training camp!

I feel really confident about our o-line this year the way Munch talks about it. When I read and hear his comments he leaves me feeling like he has this all under control. He just has this confidence about him as if whatever he thinks and says is matter of fact. I like that! I hope my feelings hold true obviously. :smiley1:

That's the problem Adams isn't capable Ben would've gotten killed if Adams stayed at LT last season, he had his chance nothing but a turnstile at LT too slow afoot.

We'll have our answers soon enough, July 25th can't get here soon enough :yeehaw:

Pretty sure Adams had to fill in for Beach at the end of the season, didn't get Ben killed, did pretty well actually.

if he was better , he'd be playing. down play the beachum statement all you want and talk about everyone getting praise, but he didn't say everyone would know who gilbert or adams or foster was this year. he didn't say as much about anyone else that strongly except pouncey. I'm not sure why some of you can't seem to fathom that beachum has a lot going for him and can play the position, but rather still try to make adams better than he is. head scratcher.

yes he said gilbert is doing really well. butler also said chris carter had a really good offseason. is that a ringing endorsement to what we are seeing and hearing from OTA's so far? we will see what happens soon enough, but only 3 guys were given high ringing endorsements from the new coach. the rest seemed pretty generic in nature. of course we don't have a lot of choice. except a rookie. I'm pulling for the young gun LT. hard work pays off. brains pay off. drive is a big part of it, not waiting for the coach to make you better after a few years, but taking it on your own before the coach gets to you. showing said coach what you have for him to mold. giving the coach less to have to overcome in personal teaching and allowing him to teach the group as a whole. that makes us a better team.

And Adams still sucks, he lost his job to a undersized 7th rd pick too.

Don't know why you have a problem with people wanting our 2nd rd pick to pan out, Mac, thats more of a head scratcher to me. This team would be much better served if Adams could man the LT position and keeping Beachum to back up several positions.

    Whatever, thats your opinion.

Is that all? Thats nothing, why would that slow him down

to pan out how? as a starter? to start over a better player, because he's a 2nd round pick? why would I want to see that at the expense of our franchise qb and the offense? I want the best 5, and no I don't care who they are, or where they were drafted. we have backups.

I painted a hypothetical and said if he is better I would like to see him man the LT position because it would be better for the team if Beachum was back as a utility lineman. Of course I don't want them to give the spot to an inferior player.

Blast, did you forget how bad Adams was last year at left tackle. Don't ever won't see him there again. Although I blame the coaches for some of it, they should of seen how bad he was prior to the start of the season. I think that is one of the reason the O line coach got fired, he missed on Adams so bad. It did't take rocket science to see he was not ready and we had players that were better.

Doesn't mean he can't improve though. He seemed to improve his technique quite a bit when he got a chance to fill in at the TE position. I think that helped him tremendously last season.

So he wasn't ready to start last year. We seen that. I still don't see why that would mean he would never be able to fill that role after another season under his belt. Not saying he has or will but I definitely am rooting for him to earn the spot at LT. ;)

Exactly. And yes, I remember how bad he was, Jad, I also remember how hard he worked and how much better he played when he got another opportunity. I also remember him being stabbed, that kind of thing will set you back. He's had a very rocky start to his career due to injuries and assault. I'd like to see what he can do fully healthy and with the best damn line coach in the business.
