He might be a player to keep a eye on in training camp and preseason, Lake and Lebeau has been talking him up some.

I believe he was specifically mentioned when they asked about why we waited on a corner

I'll take that bet. Dri Archer might already be the fastest guy in the league.

A couple excerpts from a write up by Jim Wexell about Blake...

He's playing like he's been in the Steelers' secondary for years. But Antwon Blake says we haven't seen anything yet.

Early last week, Mike Tomlin told cornerback Antwon Blake to stop looking over at him.

“I see what you’re doing 41,” Tomlin reassured him.

“Right. But I’m a fierce competitor,” said Blake. “My mindset is to work my way to No. 1.”

Blake truly believes he can shock the world some day as a No. 1 corner. And, frankly, he looked like it covering speedster Darrius Heyward-Bey on a go pattern Tuesday. Blake ran with DH-B and actually should’ve intercepted the pass.

“Way to run back there,” shouted LeBeau, the coordinator’s hawk eyes locked on the 5-9, 198-pound corner.

Last year, Blake was part of only five defensive snaps. He did break up a first-and-15 pass on the Detroit Lions' final series in a Steelers win, but otherwise Blake didn’t make a play in the secondary.

He’ll need a few of those, of course, if he wants to shock the world some day as a No. 1 corner.

“I feel like I can,” Blake said. “When that day does come, a lot of people will be surprised. But I’ll know that I’ve been putting in the work to do that.”

If coach LeBeau would try to mix in more man coverage and not just run straight zone. Let these DB's use their man skills, where they can showcase their speed.Sometimes, you have to change things up. The scheme has become very predictable over the years....This defense has no element of surprise....

When he has the corners to do so he does. When we had Ike, Lewis, and Allen we ran a lot of man. Ikept was always in man and towards the end of the year Allen took over. It is a giant misconception that we just sit there in the zone.

Blake might be fast but I'm skeptical of him running a 4.18 forty that's Deion Sanders type speed. He didn't show enough in Jacksonville or they wouldn't of released him, he will get his chance with the Steelers he better take advantage of it.

4.18 is faster than Deion Sanders. 4.18 is Ike Taylor speed.

You should be careful of "This player must be ___ because this team did ___." Teams are wrong all the time. Especially teams like Jacksonville. Is Mike Wallace one of the best receivers in NFL history? He's getting paid like it. You could say he must be, or Miami wouldn't have signed him to that contract. I wouldn't put one ounce of care in anything Jacksonville does.

Yeah. I forget where I read this (maybe PFF?) but someone said we're in trouble because we're still planning on using Ike Taylor to shadow opposing teams' #1s. That would SHOCK me considering we stopped doing it last year.

CBs are historically short. It's pretty common. There is room for short guys at the position, as long as they can play.

I've seen where his pro day was at 4.30. the 10 yard split was 1.40. wow. 21 reps. 39" vert.

    oh and he's 5-9 and a 1/4" so he's gaining hgt. already. LOL:smiley1::cool:

I'm not saying that DL dont call man coverage,Im saying he don't call it enough. The amount of man the Steelers play is very little, lets not kid ourselves. Even when Lewis was here. LeBeau didnt run man that much...Thats why a CB like Gay can make this team and get on the field....

he really did though. Those two years we were the number 1 pass defense our corners were at the line. Last year with Allen hurt he didn't have the pieces. I remember reading a couple of articles about it
