Kapernick of the 49ers just signed a contract that has a max value of $126mil over 6 yrs. He just finished his 1st complete season and get that kind of contract seems unbelievable. I could see it if he won a SB. Big Ben's new contract is coming up, wonder if he'll take anything under $20mil per year.

Since he is getting a litte older I don't think it will be as outrageous as Kaep's ( whose contract I don't agree with). I can see something like Manning's deal coming for Ben.

Matt Ryan is getting $103M for 5 yrs
    Flacco : $120M / 6 yr
    Jay Cutler: $126 / 7yrs
    Romo: $108 / 6 yrs

You gotta think Ben gets more than these guys. He give a bit of a 'home town discount' but he'll want near market value. Or a huge amount of guaranteed money.

With scrubs like Kaepernick getting $126 million/6 years, Ben would be justified demanding $180 million/6 years with $80 million guaranteed.

the thing I think we need to keep in mind and ben should too. we are probably gonna pay him more than anyone would at this stage of his career. I don't think it comes to that by no means but I am guessing we will give a huge signing bonus and maybe $18 mill a year.

I of course have no idea what I am talking about we it comes to contract details

Hindsight is 20/20 ... but it's obvious that we should have extended Ben months ago before QBs salaries got even more insane than they already were.

Tony Romo should sue his agent for malpractice ... and punch him in the face.

I have said this in other threads - I don't believe Ben will give a hometown discount. This is Ben's last chance to make big bucks probably in his lifetime. He is not going to make a lot of money on endorsements or commentating when he retires. Honestly, he is not a well-liked guy by the general public. He has a family now that he will be thinking about and I predict he will push for the maximum.

Ben has made enough bucks for 10 life times, I don't believe he will hold a gun to the Steelers during negotiations.

I don't hear any of that stuff about Ben anymore, in fact, everyone that interacts with him have nothing but good things to say. He's repaired his image and has kept his nose clean.

I'd like to add as he ages, I don't think the rooneys will cash strap themselves into a blockbuster contract with ben. it may be cheaper to let his two years run out and franchise him for a couple and see where they are. that's one possibility. ben will also be paid very well by that.

he's not getting away but they have some leverage. look at worilds 9 mil for one season at a lb'er franchise tag. he ran to sign it. with the contracts out there at qb in two years ben will stand to make a lot of cash if franchised for a couple of years before they give him a final one, then hopefully at a hometown discount for another year or two. that puts ben at 38ish and then we can see if he even still wants to play by then or can at a high enough level.

No, they won't do that and duh it will be huge.

They'll sign him and he play for us going forward 110 120 mil give or take. He'll restructure as many times as they need and that's not bad comparatively.

Oh Steelers please don't make a mistake that
will handcuff you for years. The QB pricing market
    is horrible.

Isn't there a limit on the number of players you can slap that tag on?

Yes. You can only franchise one player per team per year.

    Worilds was transition tagged.

i hope he doesnt try to break the bank. is he worth it? of course, but if the Steelers give him a huge contract than that will pretty much put them in cap h e l l for a long while. they already seem to struggle just to get under the cap each season.

i hope he goes the Tom Brady path. sign a nice cap friendly contract and leave some money on the table that the team can use to sign other players that could help Ben get the 2 rings you know he wants.

The numbers of his contract are starting to come out, and it's not nearly as largely guaranteed and cap-unfriendly as you might think. Kap's contract extension is more relevant for the young QB's who are entering the last years of their rookie deals than it is for aging QB's like Ben, though. As I've said before, the new money is what will be important in Ben's deal.

we could probably put in that buy diapers clause for ben. advancing to pull ups by year two or three. that's worth half a mil right there in cap money. :hehehe::cool:

I agree that Ben has really turned himself around and is doing good things - a good woman can do that to a man! Its still hard to shake that image once you have it. I hope you and others are right and he does agree to a contract that is beneficial to the team and himself. He has been one of the best QB's for a decade and is the Steelers best chance to get back to the big game for at least the next 5 years. Just concerned that there are too many big contracts out there to compare with.

Lets say your right, and Ben's a clean nosed solid citizen, and not the dirtbag alleged in the past. And let's agree that he wants to give the Steelers a fair contract. But I'll bet he wants a 'fair' one too.

Does Ben having a worse contract than Cutler, Stafford, Romo, Kapernick and Ryan seem fair to you? I'll bet it won't seem fair to him either.

No one is saying Ben will play for peanuts, hes going to get a good contract but I guarantee you he won't be the highest paid QB either after its all said and done.

yep agree with this post and your last post about ben will not be the highest QB when he signs his contract... ben wants to stay with the steelers .. hes a blue collar type guy and a midwest guy and knows and enjoys his role as the face of the steelers. will he work for peanuts .. hell no and he shouldnt and i think the steelers are smart enough to go to him with a fair offer and i think its all worked out.. i mean seriously how many times does a franchise QB thats the face of the team ever change teams over money.. peyton left but that was more mgmts choice .. not his... id love to know (and some of you guys love to do the research .. i dont) .. but love to know who are the last 5 QBs that left over a contract meaning to get a few more million from some other team than staying where they have been for say 8 or 10 years and are considered the face of the franchise (sorry for using that term 3x)

I don't think he will leave the Steelers, the question is how much money does he demand to stay. I believe there will be a deal made, I just think it will be for more than some think it will be. True confessions - I hate the thought of Flacco getting paid more than Ben. Ben is a much better QB. Maybe Ben is better than that, but if it was me I would insist on making more than that lifeless stiff.

I don't think the Steelers owe Ben a contract like Flacco and Kapernick got, Ben already had one 100 million contract I don't see him getting another one. Plus Ben is 32 and will be 34 by the time he plays out his current contract, he won't have that much leverage IMO. They could give him a 3-4 year extension with a big signing bonus like Tom Brady got on his last deal, no 6-7 year deal that will screw up the salary cap in the future.
