I read that too. When i first read the article i wasn't too happy to hear they almost got into it (Pouncey mentioned considering breaking rule #10 after the incident...no fighting) and then I saw a familiar face in the background of the photo that accompanied the article on my phone app.....it was Peezy. At that moment I started to think, this is probably exactly what Joey wanted to see. I have little doubt he wants his LB's to have a bit of a mean streak in them like he had and he was surely more than pleased to see the rookie show what he can do. I saw it as a positive after that. ;) :)

While I see macs point about his coverage skills I too have a hard time imagining him not making the team after his what, 11 starts i believe last season?. He was basically thrown into that starting role and I he feel did a pretty damn good job, all things considered. I just see him having the upper hand against some of these guys. He's solid against the run and I too have been a fan of his since we drafted him.

I'm a little disappointed Polamalu is not there. You would think he would want to get on the same page with whomever replaces Clark.

"You cover deep. I'll just line up wherever I want. Deal? Good. I'm back off to California."

    Same page sorted.

Polamalu skips OTA's every year no big deal, they are called voluntary for a reason.

I'm completely fine with Troy not being there. I don't know how much time he'd truly get with Mitchell anyway, and there'll be plenty of time for that this summer.

If I were a superstitious man, I'd want Troy to stay far away from OTAs.

    Re: TP
Yeah, I seem to remember the deal where he switched up his workout last year with the thing he does in Cali, which had him in the burg and @ OTAs.

It was a big deal then as he was in a contract year and he was able to stay on the field. LOL

but it's still a matter of more time together with new parts being added. before we had the same vets back that played together every year. not so now.

I agree with six on this one, plenty of time for vets to get in sync, the rookies are the ones who really need OTA's. Don't think its a big deal that Troy isn't there.

Can't believe I'm going to say this but I agree with Six as well. The OTA's are meant to give the rookies a taste of what they will get come camp and as team building exercises. It is also when the strength and conditioning coaches can set up workouts for the team. Troy has always bucked the trend when it comes to working out and has some strong opinions on diet and nutrition. He is however the consummate team guy and I don't think his not participating is meant to say something more than he has his own program that works for him. If I remember correctly I think he was present last year because there was such a turnover with the team that he felt he needed to be part of early stages, maybe after that experience he doesn't think that his presence adds or detracts from these activities. Although I can see others getting more one on one time without an entrenched starter in front of them.

two ways to look at it for sure. not only about troy getting used to playing with Mitchell, but I'm sure Mitchell has never played with a guy that does what troy does either. with ike missing too that's half the defensive backfield and Mitchell hasn't played with either of them yet. as I've said before those first 6 games will be huge this year. 4 division games in there. I'd rather we all be on the same page at the start, because they won't play together a good deal in the preseason.

They got 6 weeks of practice before they season starts. These guys are pros it won't take that long for them to gel. We aren't talking about rookies here.

Mitchell wasn't in Carolina prior to last year but looked great. In fact, he was the #2 on the depth chart and wouldn't have been the starter had someone not gotten injured. At this point the fact that he is a vet now and in his like 10th defense since he started in the league since he was in Oakland, I am going to put some faith that he will be fine with Troy and Ike.

Right, IIRC, he was here for all of 2012 and most of 2013's OTAs.

I agree. I really think the difference without Troy in OTA's is negligible.
