I was very vocal and concerned about the state of this team before we added some talent and speed. one thing I think you are leaving out of last year with ben playing all the games and we still ended up 8-8 is the part about heath miller not being there to start and then even up to well into late in the season he wasn't the same. he's back and that is a HUGE plus.

I'm guessing here but I like our chances of doing better that 8-8 this year for the simple fact that, we have found a good hard working guy at LT, heath miller is back, bell is by far better than redman and dwyer or any other guy we had at RB during the previous 8-8's. remember he was a rookie and missed a few early losses.

we are faster across the defense and that is huge. young, yes, but many of our guys were really in their first year of starting. beachum, mclendon, heyward, Williams, worilds, jones, allen, DD, shamarko and let's not forget spaeth and pouncey being down. I believe these guys will be better in the 2nd year of starting and if not we better look at some new coaches, but I don't think that's the case.

munchak will be a better coach. mann is a coach capable of leading young receivers. butler has his full array of lb'ers +.

8-8 from year to year was different. the players are different the coaches are different and some former stars are healthy. speed on D was troublesome, and we have addressed that. heck even AB is not a complete wr at this stage in his career. he can still get better. so things from the last two 8-8's are looking like they have been addressed. sure we have to put it all together and that may be the hardest part.

just because other teams seemed to have added to their teams, we can't say we didn't. other teams have to put the new parts together too. I remember a couple of years ago when philly had the dream team. how did that turn out?

personally I could care less what the other teams did or didn't do. I know we should be much improved with what we added as opposed to what we lost. add ben for however many games and that has to account for wins. a healthy heath miller goes a long way to that too.

ALL GOOD POINTS .. nothing there i can disagree with... i think the key is the steelers are competitive.... meaning they rarely get blown out.. they rarely win big.... every game is winable or losable (are those words) within the last quarter and many times on the last drive... we play the best teams hard.. we play the worst teams like they are the 1970s steelers.. i dont think we have the killer instinct to put the weak teams away early and sometimes they hang around and hang around then win on a last minute FG.. how many tiems has that happened in the past 2-3 years.. teams we shoud beat by 2 TDs and they win in the final minute by a FG because we didnt take care of business in the first 55 minutes and take them out of it .. thats why i say no one can predict this teams 2014 record... too many games that can do either way .. you cant put an W or L next to any game on the schedule.. NONE of them ... look at the crappy teams we have lost to in the past 3 years in the last minutes.. .... ok off ot watch the NBA game

Yow, that is a long day. At least you got to hang with some old ball players for some of it. That must be pretty cool.

Mac, from what I've read the turf toe bothered him all of the 2013 season and probably led to the relatively slow 40-time (4.61). Apparently he has good ball skills, good press skills, and great intangibles. I like the move.

wow thanks for the support... thats really cool... as you can tell i say what i think and the rose colored glasses members hate to hear the truth.. they view it as negativity ... so its cool to hear another "realists" member offer support... seems a few more are starting to support the truth ... thats a good thing !!! thanks

losing to inferior teams goes back some time too. this didn't just take place the last couple of years. limiting how many of those type of games will make or break this team. we have a butt load of those type of games this season, I sure hope they get it together early. that's my biggest concern. those first 6 games with a lot of young players all around.

we could still be a year away from getting really good, but I think a lot of the parts are there to help. at least physically. mentally may be another story until they get it all together. we have a lot of new moving parts to mesh as one yet. potential, potential, potential. I do think we now have the coaching staff that can get them over that kind of hump and not have them lose focus on these type of games.

I actually dont think anything he has stated makes him sound like he isnt a Steelers fan. He wants success and he wants us to win. Isnt that the purpose of this board? To express how you feel about the team? Its not always going to be positive. Nothing pisses me off more than someone telling others if they are a true fan or not.

I think his point was, that he is never positive, I have a hard time recalling when he is too. It gets redundant when a member continually dumps on every player. I'm certainly not questioning his fandom though.

Spoken like someone that is not a true fan haha jk

I agree. He has an opinion and a very strong one probably very much like his personality. We can agree to disagree without rejecting someone as being a fan or not. It's not like he is a troll or something like that. He is a very hard core Steelers fan.

:smiley1: I am alot like him I think. I get really pissed when they dont play well and I am exuberant when we win. I am extremely frustrated with the past several seasons. Its just not what I am used to as a Steelers fan.

BF, you could be right. I have not really noticed that he is negative all the time but, again, I havent really paid attention that closely. I just think if we all took the time to seek out this board and sign up and post, we are ALL "true fans".

Gotta say Hines, you make a lot of good points. The one that sticks out the most to me is that Ben didn't miss a snap last year. While I am as excited as everyone else about all of the key players coming back from injury, I don't know how confident I am that Ben plays another full year.

It's not just that he is critical of them, I have no problem with someone who has a well thought out post that critiques the team, it's that he says things like calling Bell, tinker bell, Steelers fans don't want to here people talking smack about their team, even if it's from one of their own fans. Thats just trollish behavior that will only lead to fights.

He didn't miss a game because he didn't get beat up as much as usual, the no huddle kept him on his feet a lot more and with the addition of Munchak, hopefully he will be on his feet even more. Losing your starting QB is always a fear but I think he has a good shot at playing the whole season again.

Yeah. When an injury-plagued player stays healthy all year (Ben, Troy), to me that means it's more likely they will stay healthy again the following year. I don't think it means we're tempting fate. It means he's not already coming off an injury, which is good, and it means we must have done something better last year, which is good. His odds of having a healthy 2014 season went up after last season, if you ask me.

geeeez like school girls in here. HOF has his thoughts on it as a fan, but we also have the right to have an opinion and try to counter that by our thoughts on that matter. point-counterpoint. just like the point about ben playing a full season. is that why we were 8-8? no ben isn't the only player.

do we think ben will make a full season again? who knows, but I like to think we go into each season thinking he will. I'm sure that's the plan. if not we get to put myrons guy in maybe, dirty landry. why would anyone being a steeler fan talk like that about a rookie qb, that has done nothing to deserve that. but that's his opinion. it doesn't make me want to not still converse with him thinking he's like that about every post he makes. it doesn't make his steeler fandom o meter go off in TTF's office. at least I don't think. I don't think it's up and working quite yet.

heck there are all kinds of reasons teams lose games during a season. we can't help injuries, we can however be objective and think we have a shot by getting some seasoning on our young players and getting some key vets back on the field instead of referring to what we did the last 2-3 years. it is totally different every year.

the crack about canton was wrong, but that's not my position to tell him to backoff. actually canton is a pretty nice area. there are a lot of ex-steelers stationed there too. counterpoint. see how that works?

and that's all I have to say about that. < in my best forrest gump voice.:smiley1::cool:

I stopped reading most of his posts, so I'm not up to speed and this comment isn't about him so much as fans in general. I do question the "fandom" of some that consistently dump on the team. Of course criticism is fine (see my many comments about David Johnson), and imagine if we were a team like the Browns, that's just always out of it. Of course you'd dump on them. But I think there's a line. When the fan starts hoping the team plays poorly so they can feel right or better about themselves - anytime you'd actually prefer to wallow in pity rather than enjoy a success, you're no longer a fan. I've seen that before here.

i have to agree with everything you said .. except that canton is a nice place.. no place that close to cleveland is nice... sorry just not.. .. canton thinks its a great FB city till they come south and have to play the real HS FB teams in Cincinnati .. elder, colrain, st x and not to mention MOELLER.. canton mckinley has sucke since moeller beat them in the ohio state championships back in like 1982 and 1992 and 2002 hahaha .. and every time they play them.. but thats off topic ... sorry... but some people think the burg is a dump from the old steel mill days of the fog and smog... again im sure if you are from canton you love it ... as i love pitts burg with the hills and bridges and rivers and inclines and such... 6 months a year i live on clearwater beach FL... voted #1 beach in FL.. right on the gulf of mexico... but it cant compare to the atmosphere of "the burg on game day" in the rain ... sleet .. or snow... i fly up from CWB to see a couple home games every year... friends say are you nuts... leaving a 80 degree beach to fly 2 hours to go to a game and sit out in 32 degree temps for 4 hours and then a 2 hour flight back to FL... i just tell them.. obviously you have never been to a steelers game with 60,000 people going nuts singing renegade to try to help the D on a crucial stop... id fly half way around the world to be there even from the cheap seats ... pittsburgh forever... canton never ... sorry .. just the way it is and always will be ....

Actually I was going to predict 15-1 or 16-0. I have a crystal ball that tells me so. :roflmao: This 8-8 crap you're spouting off with every post, although a true fact, just makes it sound like you have an agenda to piss people off or something. We're all big Steeler fans here. Don't you think we already know they had an 8-8 season? Rub more salt on the wound why don't ya. I can see this tactic if you were speaking to the team directly, but us fans? It's not like we have any effect on season records other than screaming in the stands. That's why you are being deemed as negative.

I'm not new here by the way but I do mostly lurk a lot. I used to be on the ESPN message boards before that turned to crap. Still friends with Bengalfish and some others from back in the day. I hear more negativity out of you than him and he's Bungals fan! LOL btw, Try not to take this post too seriously, ok?

i live in cincinnati about 4 months a year.. its where i have my business.. where i was born and raised... luckily i was a steelers fan before the bungals got a team in 68... luckily for about 40 of those last years they have had little or nothing ot brag about .. and having them win the division makes living there a living hell ... especially in my business of sports promotions.. but thats ok i just ask them to show me a picture of their trophy case at paul brown stadium.... of course they cant.. i have glass display shelves in my basement for my memorabilia.. one day when i dust it every 10 years i decided to take a picture of the empty shelves.. i carry it in my wallet.. and when a bengal fan tells me how F -ing great the bengals are i pull out the picture.. show it to them .. of course they say wtf is that.. and i say the bengals trophy case and walk away .. luckily im pretty big and never got hit .. enjoy .... oh i think you might be a little high on that 15-1 or 16-0 prediction.. about 7 or 8 wins too high (are you proud of me i dint mention 8-8),,,, cyaaaaaaaaaaa my friend
