it's OK thig, I was mainly responding to those that had him in the 4th or saying the 3rd was too high. I agree with you he wouldn't have been there in the 4th and if he was we may not have gotten Bryant. we went 1-2 with defense, why not a guy that can score in all 3 phases of the game and draft a cb that may or may not be better than the one we got in the 5th. did we think all the picks were going to the defense?

yes. he would have last year at kent but the ankle injury led the coaches to exclude him from that. he had 4 the prior year, but that year he was more involved in the run game so again they mostly kept him from those duties. don't worry ward, sit back and relax and watch the kid, I think you'll like what you see my friend. he's a tough cookie, and fun to watch.

We have to find a replacement for AB in fielding
punts.Way too valuable to lose your no 1, 90 catch receiver to injury. If he he can be half
the returner ab is, he wil be at least worth
watching. They must use him right, here is hoping they do. How many touches does he get
per game? Only so many balls to go around.
I am not seeing the touches?

You can't teach talent either. Either he can ball or he can't, and so far I'm leaning towards the can't. Not sure why he gets love around here, he's never done anything, ever

And he hasn't proven he can't either so why dump on him as others are doing? Looks to have tons of talent to me, so I'm leaning towards can and will be supportive until he proves he can't.

Not sure why fans care about where the touches come from, can never have too many weapons. Maybe the players will care because it effects them but as a fan, I don't care who is getting first downs or TD's. I don't think there are any more Wallaces on the team, so probably won't be anyone complaining about loss of focus.

Players do care, AB gets pissed if he is
not targeted atleast 10 times per. Just as I am sure Bell will want to see the rock 25 times
how about Heath? What about Wheaton other Wr's? This isn't High School
    players want the numbers, means
BIGGER PAYDAYS!LOL If he doesn't make plays on special teams, we really have no room.Oh maybe some gadget plays.

Dump on him? All I said is talent can't be taught and I said I haven't seen anything from him to indicate he'll ever be anything other than a bench/practice player. Yeah he had a good pre-season, but lots of players have great pre-seasons and never do anything in the regular season. If he was truly that talented he likely would have been drafted and wouldn't have been cut by 3 teams so far (including us). If he pans out, great, that's one more weapon for us, but I'm not about to crown a guy that was undrafted and has never done anything

he can also make those guys better. they have to account for him on the field, which takes pressure off someone else. that's also why we have ben, to get the ball to the open people.

Some mixed signals here! I didn't mean you were dumping on him, I said "as others are dumping on him" and then I mistook you talking about Archer. Oops.

Yes, players care but why do fans?

And are the other players really going to be affected all that much by taking one target away from each to get Archer his touches? He's not a # 1 receiver and isn't going to get a ton of looks. Don't worry, if Archer can be effective in this league, they will figure out how to get him the ball.

I don't think anyone is worried about Peyton getting the ball to all his weapons.

Gotcha. Definitely wasn't talking about archer. Rookies are always the new shiny toy in the room. Always lots of excitement over rookies. Archer doesn't worry me as much as our system does. We haven't had the right system for a guy like that. Hopefully that changes, but we're a pretty stubborn franchise sometimes. I just hope we don't misuse him like we did with Rainey

I think them changing his number is a step in the right direction with him. They really didn'tsplit Rainey out that much.

The problem with guys like Rainey, Archer and to acertain extent Stefan Logan when he was here was that you have to establish them as being a legit threat everytime they step on the field and not gimmick players. That was part of the problem with Rainey is that everyone knew he wasn't a true tailback he just didn't have the build so they were looking for gimmick plays whenever he did get on the field. I think if they use Archer as a slot reciever and maybe have him line up at RB and pitch it to him on the outside or run the wildcat or as an option RB that will go a long way towards forcing teams to account for him and his speed. Coincidentally I think that is the reason Moye wasn't used more last season. They only ever put him in as a redzone option and then only for the fade. Teams knew what he was going to do and defended him that way. Heck if he could have faked the fade route and slid across teh back of the endzone or on a quick slant I think it could have offered another weapon that Ben could utilize.

Not a big fan of the drafted too high argument. Thing is, if the intended player ends up scoring even 1 TD that advances your season, to me he was worth the time and money spent.

Bottom-line: If you think that player will help your team's efforts more than anyone else on the board @ the time then you take him no matter what the so called experts say.

In addition, Archer was projected to go right where he did, 3rd round.

    That's it.

here's a blurb about archer that might or might not make some feel better. http://www.steelersdepot.com/2014/05/debunking-three-myths-dri-archer-pick/

I've seen the kid play a lot and have known about him for a couple of years before this. he's a tough kid. whomever said something about him and a 240 lb. LB'er hitting him should take into account more LB'ers now are under 240 and he played against those guys every week for the last 4 years in major division 1 college football. he's really not some little twig.

I could be mistaken but I think most here agree they don't like him returning kicks, myself included.

And Hines, what you call the truth is really just your opinion, if everyone agreed with one another, this place would be boring :hello:

What's with the victim mentality? I hope they find someone else to field returns. I say it all the time.

That seems like a weird thing to say, because most football fans would rather not use their #1 receiver to return kicks and punts. Now, sometimes you have to, because you have no one else and that guy is really good at it (Santonio Holmes vs. Mewelde Moore, for example). I find it hard to believe you were "crucified" for suggesting we find someone besides Brown to be our returner. But when I went searching for your old posts like you suggested, I couldn't find them. So I'll just take your word for it. If you were, maybe it was some of those posters that nobody really takes seriously. Everyone's got a reputation around here. Some are more knowledgeable than others. Some are paranoid, hypocritical narcissists.

I definitely do not want AB returning punts. In fact, after my initial disappointment in the pick the night of the draft, my first thought was: "I hope he can return punts as well as kickoffs."

I have no problem with it. he's as good as they come as a returner and wr. the guy is a spark and playmaker from either spot. he was the first in the NFL ever to get 1,000 yards doing both. it's football and he's a damn good football player. he could get hurt tripping over the sideline chalk, why take a spark and weapon like him away from what he does so well for us? heck, I'd put em both back there and dare them to punt it. but that's me.
