He was talking to the media recently and he said Santonio Holmes and James Harrison both want to return to the Steelers. We already knew about Harrison but I would say no to both they're both past their prime, Ike is lucky he's still on the team. It's not 2008, the Steelers have gotten younger and moved on from the past.

    I agree.
And I wonder if one month ago it looked exactly this way (like we don't need them anymore). Most popular answer would probably be that a month ago, it seemed an interesting possibility to bring them back.

Does that mean that we had a solid draft and FA additions for our OLB/WR future?

I hate to say this, but I see a trend with Ike starting to develop....he is starting to talk like Clark did. Just be careful Ike and know when to hold your tongue.

As much as I loved JH as a player, I just don't think the Steelers should bring him back. I know there are others here who believe that he performed poorly with the Bengals due to them not using him right, and that he'd be better back with the Steelers, and I respect that opinion, but even if that's true, he hasn't played any meaningful football in the last couple of years to come back in and be useful right away, and he's only gotten older since he left.

As far as SH goes, he was let go for a reason. Maybe he doesn't have trouble with pot anymore, but after a non-stellar season in 2011, and injuries since, I don't think he's someone the Steelers need to be looking at right now.

I have no problem bringing in JH as long as he knows he won't be a starter and that it is for the minimum. He is better depth than Chris Carter.

I was a huge Holmes fan, but no thanks.

Those two guys made, arguably, the two greatest plays in Super Bowl history! Let's remember them that way rather than as washed up backups and let them ride off into Steelers' lore.

    :drinks: I'll drink to that.

The only way I see JH coming back is if there's a catastrophic injury mid-season.

    :this!:
I'd kick the tires. If he's done being annoying, and could come back dirt cheap, and if he's healthy, he'd be good depth. That's a lot of "if"s, though, so I do see it as unlikely to work out.

Lets be real here guys Harrison knows the reality of the situation and I don't even think he expects a starting job and like it has been said he provides better depth than Carter and Moats. Holmes is another thing entirely and I view him the way I do Plax. They are proven performers who might have lost a step or two but the chemistry they had with Ben adds to the interest level.

I'm really torn on this. Before the draft I thought it was a no-brainer to bring Harrison back. After the draft I don't see the need quite as much. Could he still help the pass rush? Absolutely. But, is it worth bringing him back for a one year deal and letting another talent go? Is an aging Harrison better than Carter and Moates (I think he is, but does the front office feel the same)?
As for Holmes, I see no spot for him on this team. There's a logjam at WR right now, and I'm not sure he would even make the final cut.

don't look now but I think JH could still outplay every OLB we have right now. if the back is healed which it is now, he can still rush the passer and stop the run. what are we talking here? cutting chris carter and keeping moats,JH and zumwalt along with the one year signed worilds and the underwhelming JJ. then Timmons, shazier,Williams and maybe garvin. with moats and zumwalt able to play inside or outside, what are we really losing? we could keep 9.

Id dump Carter in a nano second for JH, he's still in amazing shape, best ever according to Ike. He would help on the field but also show the rookies how to go about being an NFL LB, bet he would out perform everyone in the weight room too. him and Joey would be great in developing our future LB corps. The players from Cincy said they learned a lot from JH, loved having him there.

I think Santonio Holmes would be a great pick up for the right price. The reason he was having fits with the jets is because he was kind of disgusted that Sanchez couldn't throw the ball very well.

Poor QB play or not, a player that throws fits with disgust is not a player you want on your team. If I thought there was any chance of something like that happening here, I wouldn't give him a second look. Ben has bad days, too, and gets injured all the time. I don't think all his problems vanish due to a change of scenery. He has to change himself.

Maybe it wouldn't be a good thing to have Holmes back. We'd get a penalty for 12 men every time LaGarrette checks into the game from Santonio following him.

Yeah right Harrison at this point in his career isn't better than Worilds.

JH in his last year here, had 6 sacks in a season riddled with injuries. Last year he had 2 sacks playing out of position. Worilds had 8 sacks last year in his prime. JH would give Worilds a run for his money.

:this!: I'm with you Mac, JH could still outplay our OLB right now.

I hope that's true. His play took quite a dip. If he can play even a little better, that would be a big help.

As for Harrison outplaying Worilds in 2014, that is a huge assumption. Was 2012 JH better than 2013 Worilds, when you factor in injuries? Who knows, and who cares? There are legitimate reasons to believe Harrison will be better this year in Pittsburgh than last year in Cincy. And there are legitimate reasons to believe he wasn't 100% the last time we saw him in Pittsburgh. But he's still two years older, and counting. Maybe he gets healthy and stays healthy and looks somewhat like his old self. But considering it's been years since we've seen that, it's a bit of a leap to think it will happen.

It's much more realistic to assume he'd be great depth, a good run defender and good coverage guy. Worilds is in his athletic prime, and finished the season red hot. He was a huge pain for offenses in a way that Harrison hasn't been since 2011. Bring JH back for the minimum, but brace yourself for seeing him as a role player.

I'm not saying he's the starter but he would still be the best we have. besides they play two different spots. worilds has never done it for a full season either. we will see but I hold by my thoughts on JH being the best OLB we would have if he came back. he knows the defense better and knows the position better, not to mention he's physically stronger right now. worilds was rather bad on the rightside of our defense. Harrison has never been bad, just better some years than others. injuries had a lot to do with that at the time. healable injuries. he can be way more than a has been as some think, and very beneficial to this team.

I'm saying bring him in as a back up as well. If nothing else he will show Jones how to build muscle and take careof his body.
