I think he starts at ILB Day 1. I still don't think its out of the question that if we lose Jason Worilds in 2015 that Shazier moves to OLB. Jarvis switches to LOLB, Shazier to ROLB, and if he is up to it, Spence slots in at ILB.

But for 2014, I expect Shazier to get alot of snaps and to be quite productive. I think Clowney & Donald are going to situations where one of them probably emerges as Defensive Rookie of the Year, but I believe Shazier will be hot on their heels.

I don't see Shazier moving to OLB at all he's too light, people thought Jones wasn't strong enough at OLB and he's 15-20 LBS heavier than Shazier.

Shazier is only 8 pounds lighter than JJ, but I agree that he will probably not be headed outside at all in Pittsburgh. Seems like his skill set would be best utilized at ILB. It wouldn't shock me for JJ to move to the left side if Worilds walks tho. However, I think he will be okay on the right this season.

JJ will add a few pounds this season, he'll play quicker too.

Probably the exception to the rule I know, but James Harrison came into the league at 6'0 240 lbs and he turned out alright. They will put Shazier wherever he is going to make the biggest impact.

On the field. Just put him on the field

But I tend to agree with the other guy. I don't see him at OLB long-term. James Harrison was a freak of strength the way Ryan Shazier is a freak of speed. Shazier doesn't have that strength-to-size ratio. Maybe they'll stick him out there on passing downs, and maybe he'll be a Timmons-esque emergency OLB, but that doesn't seem to be the best way to utilize his talents.

I think Shazier will probably stay at ILB, but I do think the physical ability is there for him to be a very good OLB down the road. By way of comparison, look at Clay Matthews. He came in at 6'3" 240, which is less stout than 6'1" 237. Shazier's explosion numbers were superior across the board: bench 25 vs. 23, vertical 42 vs. 35, broad jump 10'10" vs. 10'3". Also, I read that Matthews entered USC at 166 lbs, and has gotten to 255 in the NFL. If Shazier can pick up another 10-15 lbs he can be a freakishly explosive edge rusher. You can already see some of the necessary skills on film. Edge rushers are valuable commodities, so if he can do it, don't discount the possibility of it happening.

I think if nothing else it will allow Timmons to be less of a cover backer and allow him to rush the passer in the face of the qb which LT does quite well. don't forget if they play it right and McCullers is in there, it will be difficult to get to or pick up blitzers up the gut. he's hard to get around and the wingspan and size will make things difficult for qb's to see and have open passing lanes. it should make our ILB'ers more of a threat. it doesn't all have to come from the OLB'ers. our DE's are now also a pass rush threat. it will definitely throw some kinks in pass protection for other teams.

Oh, they will play. I'm pretty sure that barring injury Shazier and Tuitt will get more snaps than anyone else at their positions, even if they don't technically "start" from day 1.

I should have stated different, Let them play,
should have been TURN THEM LOOSE. Get
back to exciting brand of football. Watch MT
    seats vanish, Shamarko should also
be included in this conversation. Lets see Timmons, Shazier, Cam, Shamarko ,
Troy, some pretty nice players TURN
THEM LOOSE, Bell, AB, #7, Heath, some pretty
nice ball players there. Game changers
now exist, let them CHANGE games.
