Who's to say we need 5 CBs? We just need 5-6 DBs.

Mike Mitchell can run. Shamarko can run. Troy can run (kind of). Got Ike, Allen & Gay. See what Shaq can do.

Maybe they haven't had faith in their recent defenses to generate pressure upfront. I think the pitch and catch is due more to the fear of bringing our CBs up and not getting home. They were/are concerned about our CBs being left out to dry with no pressure up front. The more pressure we get the tighter we can man up. I think the key is in mixing up our coverages more and not giving opposing QBs a open door to throw into. I feel we have upgraded significantly at safety and I think the days of Ike being solely responsible for the other guys best WRs are over that should also play into our favor. We need our younger DBs to step up as well and not just take up a roster spot.

I think Archer in the 3rd was a luxury pick, should've drafted best CB on the board IMO.

Thank you. Not everyone has a Tom Brady. He's the only one that truly picked us a part last year. Secondary wasn't the problem last season but some of you guys will never be convinced of that.

Can anyone tell me more about Carrington? Is he truly just a FS or can be play CB? They have him listed as a DB....nothing specific.

The only pick I don't like is the archer pick. Its not that I don like his ability, which I see as limited, I just thought there were better options at the time.

I, however, will from here on in be on the tuitt bandwagon. I love the pick. I didn think we'd have a shot. I guess last years production dropped him that far. I'm excited about a guy that has played a 3-4 DE and like Jarvis was in a similar scheme. His learning curve will be much smaller and could possibly contribute quickly.

Mainly a FS, but has been moved in and out from CB. Here's an audio interview with him from the beginning of the 2013 season where they talk about his transition to CB. http://soundcloud.com/kzsusports/stanford-db-devon-carrington

Here's a clip of him running down Mariota, demonstrating his top end speed.

I am not ecstatic about our draft but only time can tell. They most know something we don't to not think talented corners are needed in today's NFL. The front seven and the secondary go hand in hand when it comes to pass defense, when one group lacks the other suffers and vice versa. Hopefully this Richardson kid doesn't turn out to be just another permanent back-up... it cannot be that hard to supplant William Gay or Ike at this point in his career, for that matter.

I really dislike the Archer pick. Those types of players or more of a gimmick than anything. He's no Sproles or Tavon Austin as I know people will bring those guys up to justify it. He will be easily hurt and unable to break tackles, I just don't see a place for him. I hardly ever see returners get injured... I almost dont want there to be a reason to take Brown off the return game for this kid, too exciting watching him work.

    I was thinking the same.

What really hurt us last few seasons was not having someone to match up against the elite TEs (not the only thing that hurt us, of course). We've sped up at LB - hopefully guys like Spence might come into the equation here as well.

While there are still a few picks I'm still hoping don't go the way past similar picks have - Archer, for example - what I like about this draft is that I get a sense of strategy surrounding the picks. The FO knew we needed help at corner - but sometimes 'help at corner' isn't always answered simply with CBs alone. Just like help with the run game isn't always answered by a stellar RB alone.

in our scheme the value of cb i s half of teh value of lb ,take two guy with the same value in the beginning for ex ... a guy like dennard with our 10 yard cushion would be slightly better than gay , guy like shazier vould be the next timmons ,this is the difference

In the Pats game you are referring to (a 39-26 loss), Gronk had all 3 of their receiving TDs and the RBs combined for 6 catches for 58 yards. Shazier, Mitchell and Shark help with that kind of situation. In last year's loss, we did have trouble stopping the WRs early, but we made it back in the 3rd quarter - and then got utterly blown up by their running game. They had 197 rushing yards, much of them in the 4th quarter. Our inside run defense didn't give us a fighting chance. There was more to fix than the corner position, and we have had great defenses for years without great corners. Am I concerned about the corner situation? Yes. However, I was just as concerned about the front 7, and they addressed a lot of those concerns. You can't fix every problem in one year.

Grand pa Lebeau said two days ago that cornerback wasn't as big of a need as it is perceived to be, sometimes I wonder if he sees the big picture any more, we havent drafted a DB in the first round since Troy in 03, we had our pick of two corners this year and went linebacker again, so perceived or not the Bengals jumped on Dennard after we passed on him, that could come back to haunt us with Dennard in our Division...

Dennard will be great if he's allowed to get away with holding. I think we got better value early.
