Being that nobody's first round picks have even played one down in the NFL, reserve your judgement on everybody for at least a few years.

Far too sensible, we didn't pick Dennard, the sky is falling.

I think the depth of the draft pool is giving the FO some confidence in finding a later round DB. However, we simply cannot leave that to too late a round, as our ability to find diamonds in the rough at that position has been notoriously bad.

But the more I look at the Shazier pick, the more I like it.

    2nd round - DB, 3rd round - WR, perhaps?

I'd favour that but if Nix, Tuitt or Hagemann are there at 46 I think it's gonna be very tempting to pick one of them and one almost certainly will be.

^^^^^^ An average CB can look good if you pressure the QB, and force him to throw it early. Most CB's can cover guys right out of the gate, it just happens that if you let the QB hang in the pocket for 3-4 seconds, then the receivers find time to get free.......

I also really like this write-up, from NFL.com.....

    _______________________________________
Striking tackler -- uncoils on contact. Excellent speed and range -- opens up his stride in space and really covers ground. Bends naturally. Changes direction and accelerates with ease. Explosive first step as a pass rusher -- shows the ability to dip, bend and run the arc low to the ground. Ample athleticism and flexibility to mark backs and tight ends. Led all players at the combine with a 42-inch vertical jump and blazed a sub-4.4 40 time at his pro day. Four-down utility. Arrow is pointing up.

Hey TTF is there a way to see if this exact thread was started after last year's draft because I swear it was.

Every year. Think the whole place went into a tailspin when the Ravens got The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.

His feet never stop moving even through the tackle (LOL).

We're the Pittsburgh Steelers and people are moaning the addition of a linebacker that is relentless and faster than most WRs, corners, and even RBs? The linebacker is where we gained our rep and why many of us are fans.

Kid's a football player no matter what position they put him. He could even play Safety but the best part is he's a disruptive play maker that Peezy will have under his helm.

Linebackers: draft them and draft them often!

My problem with it is that, Hampton aside it takes soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long for D-Linemen to see the field under Mitchell and Lebeau.

NT is a little differ ent then ends. Most if not all of our ends were tackles in college and need time to make the transition to a 5 technique while DT and NT are very similar.

Last year fans were praising the rest of the division for their drafts also, the Bengals still have Dalton at QB and the Ravens are rebuilding like us and the Browns are still the Browns. People always praise Ozzie Newsome for his drafting but he hasn't drafted a Pro Bowl player since Ray Rice.

Agreed and so Nix would be tempting but could they not go with say Beau Allen in the 6th instead? They had him in for a visit I believe. Or is Nix SO much better. I suspect of the 3, Tuitt, Hageman and Nix, Nix will go first.

I don't think day one but it will be his job before long. The whole taking 3 years to see the field is so overblown, it has more to do with who is in front of them. I've been a supporter of Vince Williams but hes not going to keep Shaizer from taking the job. Excellent pick, plenty of good DB's left to grab.

"Dude, don't do it there's always round 2" LOL

PS. sorry but I'm dying here. Wonder how many didn't make it through the night?

to me its almost seems like they are saying without saying that maybe Jarvis Jones wasnt a good pick. to go with another LB in the 1st round to me wasnt ideal.

when they showed Jones numbers for last year on the crawl when it was the Steelers pick the number that stood out was 14 games played with 1 SACK.

the guy they got last year seems like he can come in and help right away, but they needed help at CB and WR. its too bad they felt they had to use their 1st pick on another LB.

That is all well and good but while we are at it lets just close all the threads related to the draft and shut down the draft section all together while we are at it. Yeah didn't think so...

The people complaining are not saying "Shazier is trash we shouldn't have drafted him" its moreso, "Cornerback has been the worst position on this team for the longest time, we have to keep huge cushions because we have no talent that can keep with receivers and we get absolutely no picks and we allow QBs to dink and dunk and release the ball before our front seven can get in there to wreak havoc."

Don't forget the best way to wreak havoc in a passing game, is get to the Quarterback, the best shut down corner, even Richard Sherman can cover a guy forever.

if you haven't noticed it's a different front 7 now. ike can't catch well so we never lead the league in picks on our best days. he could shut down the other teams best guy though most days. that will be up to cortez now. have we forgotten about him?

with Timmons and his clone but faster, we'll be very tough in pass coverage. Timmons has proven he can make picks.

add two safeties that can cover and are blazers in their own right and we should be able to fix the problems you say we have. different guys than before remember. much more speed to cover that dink and dunk. the corners don't cover everybody.

That was one of the worst case scenarios possible for Manziel. Playing in Cleveland + annual road games @ Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, & Baltimore. That's a minimum of 11 northern games, a minimum of 11 outdoor games, and a minimum of 11 chances at crappy weather each and every seasons. He's also got a game in Buffalo this season.

Check out his grip on the ball. When the wind starts whipping around and it gets cold and wet ... hilarity will ensue.

All the top 5 corners are gone, so we can look for projects now, I dont care if shazier can run a flat 3.0 -40, we needed to draft a top corner in a bad way, i'm sick and tired of wasting 1st round picks on linebackers who sit on the bench for 3 years........
