I was about 6 or 7 when I became a Steelers fan. We lived about an hour from Cleveland, and my dad and grandfather were both big Browns fans, and also Indians fans. For whatever reason, my dad took me to a lot of Indians games, but never mentioned football much when I was that young.

A family from Michigan moved to our area and started going to our church. They had kids about the same age as me and my sister, and our families became friends. They were huge Steelers fans, and they were the ones who really introduced me to football. This was just about the time of the Steelers 4th SB win. I've been a die hard fan ever since, much to the chagrin of my dad and grandpa.

At least my parents did buy me Steelers jerseys, shirts, coats, hats, etc.

All the songs that I sung
All the hearts I thought I won
    After everything I've done
I wanna go back, back to the Florida sun

it strikes me as funny but NO took us to a SB and it would have been 2, but we never get on the guy or guys that let the TE from the chargers behind them in the championship game the year before. that play may have been a bigger let down then the SB to me. it felt like someone kicked me in the gut that day.

Born in 76, in southern NJ. I didn't get into watching football until I was probably a teenager. I was in a household with my Stepdad who was an Eagles fan and my mom who's a Cowboys fan. My dad was born just outside of Pittsburgh so he's naturally a Steelers fan. I watched both the Eagles and Steelers, but really felt more connected with the Steelers. I'd say I was a fan from the late 80's on, but I can't remember much from that time (not there was much to remember).

I was born in 1952 and my Dad took me to Steelers Games in Forbes Field and Pitt stadium when I was a kid. Got season tickets when they moved to 3 Rivers.

i too was born in 1952... in cincinnati ... in 1961 i became a pirates fan (yeah i missed the 1960 WS.... pi$$ poor timing on my part) eventually roberto clemente became my hero ( i have a shrine to him in my home) in i belive 1963 the pirates came to crosley field to play the reds .. it was augurst 18 .. i was a little kid (11) .. if you know know crosley field was NOT in the greatest area of cincinnnati .. i begged my parents to take me to the game.. you see it was a very speaicl game.. august 18 is robertos birthday .. so .. i made a sign .. happy birthday roberto ... and that afternoon i ran away from home.. i hopped a bus and went to the game that night.. bought a ticket up in the nose bleed and snuck down into the first base box seats.. every inning when roberto woud run by out to RF i woud yell happy birthday roberto.. he never heard me.. for 7 innings that went on... finally inning 8... roberto runs out to RF past me.. i yell HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBERTO.... he ran by the first base umpire.. the umpire i guess got tired of hearing me .. he reached out.. grabbed robertos arm.. pointed ot my sign.. roberto read it slowly.. then got a big smile and tipped his hat to me... some big kids took my sign and threw it out onto the field... the umpire went and get it and handed it back to me (this could only happen in the 60s)..... when i got home i got my little a$$ beat.. i dont remember the beating i took but i wil never forget roberto tipping his cap to me.. as many of you know im in the sports promotion business.. athlete signings.. sports shows,, sports auctions ... etc... about 15 years ago i acquired a game used autographed 1960s roberto clemente game worn and autographed hat... i like ot think it was the hat he tipped to me that night in i think 1963... sorry for making this so long but its one of the greatest stories of my life... after that i started to watch the NFL .. cincinnati didnt have a team until 1968 ... so about 1963 i became a steelers fan and have been one now for 50 years... go steelers !!!

I was born in 1977, in Ohio, 4 hours away from Pittsburgh. I was groomed into a Steeler fan by my uncles, as far back as I can remember. My earliest memory of watching games was when Mark Malone was QB and Louis Lipps was WR. I was prolly 7 or 8.

From there I adopted all the Pittsburgh teams as my favorites. The Pirates, Penguins, and of course the Steelers.
I do cheer for the Panthers and even went a game last season, but I am a faithful Buckeye fan. My wife is also an Ohio State and Findlay Alum.

I am from and live in the city where Roethlisberger was born. So when we drafted him, I think I shed a tear. The Principle at the school where my wife teaches is Ben's relative.

I been to two Steeler games, both in Heinz field, and a Pitt Panther game. I have seen the Pirates play in Cincy a few times, but this year I have tickets to a Reds @ Pirates game. I hear the stadium is one of the best, I can't wait. Then after that, it will be my mission to see the Penguins play in Pittsburgh next season. I hope to one day be able to live in Pittsburgh.

I was a so so NFL fan on 12/23/1972....Sat down to watch a NFL playoff game against the STEELERS and Raiders on my mom and dads black and white 19 inch tv. I was 12. Loved the end of that game. Decided than...Im rooting for that team the rest of the way. We all know what happened next week. But from that day on the STEELERS were my team.

Mine also involved a "wager". Big bucks compared to you guys. I bet my best friend in the 5th grade a QUARTER that the Steelers would whip the Cowboys in Super Bowl X and the rest is history. Swannie put on a show that day and while I had begun to follow the the Steelers earlier that season (initially at least because I loved the uniforms, lol), it was the Super Bowl that really reeled me in as a lifelong fan. I can still see the look on my friend's face as he slapped the quarter into my palm the Monday morning after the Super Bowl. Ah, the memories!

I had one of those! Got it for Christmas 1979 and left it beside the bed on Christmas Eve. Fell out of the bed onto the game during the night putting a huge dent in it. After that, all the players could do was gather in the middle of the field and slam dance. :smiley1:

being from Germany, I didn't really pay attention to football until I started going to university. My English professor invites us over one night to watch some ball, then this happened :)

    BettisUrlacher.jpg

Winning the big one at the end of the year was the cherry on top, but it were a fun few games before that too. Guess that game is the reason why I despise football in domes and look forward to late-year ball when it's snowy and muddy and ugly

Pity I only saw so few of Bettis (and Faneca, hope DDC can turn into a beast like Alan)
