I'm with ya! In spring '74 I was 16 and, like you, had been a Steelers fan for 2 years. Being in San Diego, there wasn't much press on teams other than the Chokers and Raiders. The Steelers draft became apparent pretty quickly!

What a draft, I too was only 14, but
had been watching my hometown team
for some time. The building of this dynasty
was taking on more pieces. They were GREAT, and those still with us still are.

Wow!! I was 5 years old and didn't become a steelers fan until about 10. The reason is because my mother brought my brother and I one of those old electric football games with the super bowl participants being the Steelers and Cowboys. I chose the Steelers and been a fan ever since.

In 1974 the Steelers had the Greatest draft of any team before or since. The Greatest Draft Class was probably in 1967 which produced 10 HOFers.

In 74' I was a young lad of 12, living in NC we had no local team, only 3 channels on TV which was dominated by the Washington Redskins. Mom, being from Hew Hampshire was a skins fan. Dad, being from Louisiana was more of a Cowboys fan so when the game came on our house was divided. Our local HS team was named the Vikings just like Minnesota and Fran Tarkenington (?) was their QB and I was becoming a fan of theirs as I was searching my own identity then one faithful day in 72' the Steelers was on TV, playing the Viking. As I was pulling for the Viking's that Black-N-Gold uniform started pulling me in. Watching that tv I was like a kid at the store front of the local five-n-dime that had a new shiny Schwinn bike in the display window. That Black-n-Gold captivated me, and # 75, Mean Joe Greene, was dominating and Fran was running for his life. I was hooked. I found my Team and shortly afterward my mom performed a miracle and got me a Steelers coat, Black with shiny Gold sleeves. I was the only kid in my small town and middle school with a Steelers coat. Every one was either a Viking, Cowboy or skins fan except me and I defended my team like a warrior. In 74' we had that great draft and became a dynasty and I've hated the Cowboys ever since.

Sweet. I saw the one they had on the '64 draft and was thinking "Where is the '74?". Should be entertaining.
