Game of Thrones (HBO) - Time to jump on board

From the little I've seen, they did a great job casting Oberyn Martell. Almost pitch perfect. (I always pictured Antonio Banderas, but this guy has convinced me already).

Forget winter. Dorne is coming.

I guess new Daario is getting Strong Belwas' scene. I wish we could see Belwas, but apparently he's been cut from the TV version. The new guy they cast as the Mountain is decidedly "Mountainish." And I do believe that was Mag the Mighty in the tunnels crashing the gate.

 

Hell yeah. I'm really excited for this season.

 

Off topic, but this olympics promo narrated by Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) is pretty badass.

Wow. The show runners weren't kidding when they said that they had hashed out the whole story to the end with GRRM.

He just released a preview chapter last week of the next book. It was an Arya chapter. I won't spoil it. If you really want to know, PM me. But there was a huge moment in that chapter that they inserted into this episode. Different setting and sooner in chronology of course. And some slight differences into the who and a spoken line or 2 (mostly because they altered her story for the show at another significant event). But the payoff was the same. Can't be a coincidence.

Is it just me? Or did that episode fly by? Felt like 10 minutes.

So glad to see Oberyn "MFing" Martell. Pedro Pascal is playing him pitch perfect so far. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch (easily one of my favorite characters in the books).

I'm glad they left in Janos Slynt being a <insert an insult Bronn and the Hound throw around> now that he's at the wall. This will take time to simmer...

New Daario is... underwhelming so far. I didn't care for the previous Daario either, so I guess they just will never match my version of him. He needs to be COCKY, full of swagger and lecherous. Dany thought of him as a man who could rape you with his eyes. And his fondling of his "ladies" while leering. What's with this romantic crap??? He's a surrogate Khal Drogo. Not Prince Charming.

Good start. Hold onto your seats next week.

(although... I don't recall the Thenns being cannibals in the books. Not even a hint. Oh well, guess they wanted to make certain non-readers knew they were dangerous)

The wife and I shared a couple bottles of Ice Wine for the premiere. A contact came through for me, but I didn't get it in time to have this chilled for tonight. So I'll savor it next week with gusto:

 

It did go by fast. Very well done, though, from start to finish.

I've said it before, but I would love an Arya/Hound spinoff, where they just go adventuring and killing king's men along their way.

You lucky bastard, I couldn't get Fire and Blood. I did coincidentally find a hidden bottle of Black Cherry wine that I brewed last year. What an awesome surprise that was. Aged very well.

 

A friend's brother-in-law attended a beer festival where they were having a tasting. He snagged us a couple bottles.

As for getting more, that will be a little problematic. Supply is always short, and I couldn't get my hands on the last 2.

 

That's awesome. You'll have to let me know how it is. Oddly enough, I could have gotten the last two but didn't due to varying circumstances. This batch seems to be non-existent.

 

Well, it was just released, so I'm sure it will become more available in NY at least. I'll give my review when I break the seal.
