I wonder if John Gruden will still keep his man crush for Blount now that he is a Steeler. He had nothing but complete optimism for Blount's future. Here's to hoping he is correct.

here is what i think will be interesting ... blount averaged 4.7 to 5.0 YPC last year depends on what report you read.. thats top end.... bell had 3.5 YPC thats lower tier for a starter... a full yard less than a lot of the better backs.. so i think it willl be intersting to see.. 1 how does blount compare YPC with the steelers OL compared to his 4.7/5.0 in NE... and given the same line how does bell and blount compare YPC in 2014... i wouldnt be shocked at all to see blount have a higher YPC than bell this year..

Good signing indeed. My apologies if you were offended. I just find it hilarious at times around here . People talking crap about fumbles .. I am pretty sure there were a few posters here talking about Mendy fumbling too.

Really? There is a relationship between amount of carries and fumbles?

I agree too. Can I get some of them god points:smiley1: I need all the help I can get. I like The Hyphen too if he's healthy,he did look good. I really want Archer or DAT probably somewhere in the 5th maybe the comp. It's the first one of the comps. that round. Is there anyone presently signed with any potential? They seem to be holding on to AA. Is there any hope for him? or Poole?

Trust me he is replacing Dwyer for sure.

In Tampa " didn't know the playbook" and " couldn't get to practice on time and fell asleep in meetings". He also " had very low work ethic"

Blount only had a cup of coffee with the Titans after being signed as a UFA: Teams held that incident he had in college where he suckered punched an opposing player against him in the draft, teams labeled him as needing anger management: Blount survived the titans final roster cut and was placed on the Titans' 53 man roster. Blount was then waived to make room for veteran linebackers Tim Shaw (Chicago Bears) and Patrick Bailey (Pittsburgh Steelers) He did throw a punch at a team mate when he was a Titan, we will have to wait and see if he can control his anger in our locker room, but he is a hard running back who can pay dividends here if he can control his temper: So he never played in a real game for the titans and did play 3 years for the bucs and 1 year for the pats, did he have anger issues as a patriot, no one knows because belichick is always tight lipped about his teams inner circle....

The Pats reportedly wanted him back for a 1 year deal, so I'd imagine he wasn't a problem.

They didn't want him back that badly, they offered him veteran minimum with hardly any signing bonus: Mike Giardi has more on Blount going to Pittsburgh: Source tells me Pats weren't willing to go extra yr with Blount, not offer much in the way of guaranteed money #patriotstalk — Michael Giardi (@MikeGiardi) March 28, 2014

I didn't say or imply they wanted him back badly. Of course they didn't or they would have signed him. If he was a problem child there, I don't think they'd even attempt to retain him.

He didn't say that they offered him vet minimum.

We don't know how bad they wanted him back. They do seem to have more viable depth than we do so I'm sure he wasn't high priority. They would have taken him back if the deal worked in their favor both financially and need wise. There has been recent back talk from a lot of their former players about disliking the atmosphere there,so that may have played a part in Blounts decision. Who knows? Glad to have him.

this is why we brought Joey Porter back, now if James Harrison comes back, Blount would get buried if he tried that crap with Pitts. Maybe he'll take a swing at Haley lol

Ridley was benched in the latter part of the season because of fumbles and Blount replaced him as the starter, it does seem strange the pats didn't want him back bad enough to put a stronger offer on the table, at any rate he is a big 6 foot 250 pound back who can wear a defense down which should bode well for Bell to pound out some big yards this year, and we just might have a big two headed monster running game on our hands this year....

There is obviously a little baggage, but in the end he is perfect for what we will use him for. He will get Dwyer's short yardage carries from last year and the 1 or 2 series per game that we seemed to give our back up RB's. He's at least a proven commodity as a pretty good back up runner in the NFL. We won't go into 2014 expecting a rookie RB to perform in an important role for us. We will still draft a RB I believe, but it will be more in the mold of Archer or DAT. We could always re-sign LSH if we are comfortable with his recovery and not draft a RB all together. This was an incredibly important signing for us. Now we address DE and/or OLB in June, and draft as many studs as we can in the draft.

My last input on this since it seems i waste my time posting stuff sometimes...

People complain about the money he's getting...only $950K is guaranteed...last year they paid Redman $1.3m I believe and he was cut after the first game or so...but he was still guaranteed that money for sitting at home. Also they could cut their losses after 1 year and not be out much of anything.

    Good signing, the end.

Bell Blount combo, I'm still asleep right?

Risk/Reward: One year to show who you are and another to keep or unload. A 4.5+ ypc, multiple TD threat, big back w/a motor and attitude for about a mil a year.

    Hello!

Actually, I laughed my ass off at the video of that punch. Yes, he talked crap before the game and I think rightly so since they did take cheap shots the year before. I had no problem with him decking the guy after he approached to talk crap and shoved him. Dude just didn't think he could respond that quick and accurately...and found out differently! Was it right? No, but when you stoop to gloat, I have no sympathy for you when it bites you in the butt. I did have a problem with him not being able to calm it down afterwards though.

Same thing happened to me in the berthing (naval ship for barracks). Young guy was running his mouth while I was sitting on the couch. Tone was getting aggressive and challenged me right there, so I shot up and bulldogged him instantly. Kept complaining he wasn't ready after the fact. (he really didn't think I could get off the couch that quick and grab him and felt secure in the challenge) Good, kid though and no hard feelings to this day. Learned a lesson in underestimating that day though.

Could Blount finally be Bettis replacement?

You think he could be our next franchise every down RB? If that is your expectation, I think you will be incredibly disappointed with Blount. He is a pretty darn good back up RB, but Id be shocked if he is in a Steelers uniform longer than the 2 years that we have him under contract for.

That's not what Bettis was his last year here, my bad if I misled you, Bettis was a hammer brought in for the tough yards, but not the # 1 guy.

I don't think the bus redux, who is?

Spare some mileage on the kid and an additional hammer. 1-2 combination, if you will. Also, I think we have to keep in mind he can motor too. 6 foot whatever, 250 give or take and he can still take it to the house?!? Good grief.

One more thing: No one's under any illusions that Bell's NOT our future but things happen and these dudes, like all of us, have egos. Depending how things play out over a 2 yr scenario maybe Bell gets a little gruff-ed not getting attention he feels he deserves. Come contract time it's not like a RB with some tread ware, either of the two BTW, is going to hold you to a QB, WR, CB, or even nowadays O lineman bank breaking pay or he walk threat.

    "Well played." IMO

Got ya. You didn't mislead, I misunderstood. I agree with your assessment that he will play a similar role to Bussy in his final year. I think Blount will be given one or two series a game much like Jones/Dwyer were given last year (on top of his short yardage carries) but will be less used in goal to go situations than Bettis was. I doubt they will let Bell get us inside the 5 to only take him out and let Blount get the TD stats. Bell is too valuable as a dual threat in the receiving game to be taken out in goal to go situations... However, in between the 20's I fully expect Blount to be given the rock in short yardage situations.

Hypothetical. Do you guys think that with the signing of Blount they may ask for Bell to maintain and play at a lighter weight. I think that would help his speed and explosiveness. Knowing that they now have Blount to shoulder some of the load and probably get more of the short yardage carries they may not need Leveon to carry extra weight to absorb punishment. I'm not saying Bell is overweight so don't get all :threaten:. I'm just saying that a little more speed could be beneficial. I know he lost weight for the combine to improve his agility. I don't know if he put it back on during the season.
