I think the blount deal is a steal for the steelers. MDJ signed with the raiders a moderate contract. When was the last time when a RB signed a big contract like $60mil/5yrs.

Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, and Matt Forte all signed big contracts recently. Also the position has been somewhat devalued and Blount was signed to be a backup he wasn't going to get big money.

thanks "rosey" for pointing out that chart.. proves my point .. 2 of the others that had 3 fumbles had just about twice the carries of blount... so in case you cant see it thru your rose colored glasses.. that means he fumbles almost twice as much as the others.. got it now "rosey" (you know who you are )

And what two others were we signing? Looks to me like Blount is ranked 10th.. 776 yds

Look at it again.. There is no rose color or colour glasses.

dont know .. dont see where i talked about 2 others we were signing... only other RB i know we looked at was MJD and that was a pipe dream.... what im shocked at is the steelers said they were looking to sign a RB before the week ended.. AND THEY DID... they never give away their postion... it want just like they said .and again im shocked that they actually signed a guy other teams wanted... i read somewhere that the pats wanted to bring him back... question is why didnt they get him back.. seems they have more cap space than us... if hes interesting in winning he has a far better chance to win with the pats than the steelers... maybe he sees more playing time here.. hes a definite #2 RB here and might be a 3rd team guy with the pats.. maybe hes tired of big bill and all his BS in NE? dont know why he came here but sure couldnt have been money and i like that attitude...

The Steelers signed Mike Mitchell and he's a guy other teams would've wanted also, it's just that he signed with the team early and didn't shop around.

I appreciate the signings... The dissecting stuff is what it is, there are just as many fans nay saying everything as there are high giving. Mitchell and Blount are good signings... Every now and then we have some of those... And still ***** when we do. They're not retreads, they're young with upside etc...

sometimes i I get all fan panicky, but some of us on the board are kinds outta control.

We'll see what Mitchell brings. All the hoo haw of intangibles and how long it took to get some playing time aside, the man earned what he did last season in Carolina and maybe it'll pan out here. Blount is a hell of a back, and I wished we'd have drafted him.

I'm the first guy to nay say a fella that appears to be a piece of shag, needs the boot. But we live in a time where more people are afforded extraordinary chances to make their mark... And sometimes, it really is a good thing.

i don't care if Blount has shifty hands in the pass catching category, hell we've been down on some of our wr's over the years for that. It wasn't until bell came along that we actually saw some things being utilized for the better and I don't believe that will stop.

blount will give us what Dwyer and Redman could not, and Mitchell may provide what Clark can no longer do,k and all with a few years of upside.

I like the signings and can't wait!

A dime a dozen in this passing game era,
but if you got a good one, they too can
pay big dividends. If the Steelers could get
back to lets say a 60/40 run pass ratio.
Do you think we would win more games?
What is Ben R w/l ratio if he throws less than 35 a game? LOL its HUGE!

Just suggesting this is correlated but not necessarily causal... when you're already up of course you are going to start handing off the ball more so that will skew things some... cowher was something like 111-0-1 when up in the 2nd half or 4th quarter because he could hand it off to the Bus (but of course you need the right horse in the stable to do this).

Anyway, was poking around pro-football-reference.com and couldn't find per-game attempt ratios because I was curious about the ration under different rosters. Anyone have a stats site they like for this kinda stuff?

teamrankings.com is pretty good. Not sure if you can get that stat easily, but it does have a lot of different stats that you don't see on the regular sites.

Interestingly enough, the team struggled these last 2 years when the starters were hurt. 2012 moving right along, and then Ben goes down. Team loses what 5 in a row? Then we begin 2013 without Heath and without Bell. There's no offense, team loses 4 in a row.

While most of these signings aren't starters, they are quality back ups. The type of back ups that have the potential to come in on a limited basis and do the job. We all know injuries are going to happen. Maybe this year, when the unfortunate happens, the team has enough depth to overcome.

So I agree, I like the signings.
