I've read 2 reports, One said he signed a 2yr 5 mil deal and the other said it was a 2yr 6mil deal. either on was probably more than what the steelers offered. I doubt we offered more than a 1 yr deal worth more than 1.3mil.

Besides, Jerricho is a NC guy, he's coming home.

We'll be ok, I really believe in Wheaton and Justin Brown and Miller should be back @ 100%.

Fans thought the cap going up was going to help us. So far it has mostly helped us avoid extending Ben's contract.

It did help. And unfortunately it went up for everyone else too. So while it made it easier to retain Worilds, it also gave everyone else the opportunity to overpay for mediocre talent.

Neither of those reports are correct. It's a five year deal totalling $8.015 Mil, including a $2.25 Mil bonus. Salaries of $1.25 Mil, $1.45 Mil, $1Mil, $1 Mil, $1.015 Mil. The deal also includes workout bonuses.

It doesn't seem out of the question for us... perhaps there was more than money going on? Possiblity of being the no. 2 receiver, perhaps?

Damn, I think we are gonna miss Cotchery more than most think...
Ben seemed very comfortable throwing him the ball, and he had a knack for getting open, and holding onto the ball, when it was thrown his way.
Without looking up stats, I`m guessing he was our best "3d down/possesion receiver", we had, since Hines left...
Heath may be back in that role, now that he`s 100% again, but slightly different for a reciever to fill that role, as opposed to a tight end...
For that matter, Bell might pick up shorter yardage conversions in the passing game, if used that way,
But, I can`t help feeling that we let a player get away, that could have helped us on the field, and in the locker room.
Oh well, it is what it is, we`ll move on, and "next man up, will hold to the standard that has been set"...
    GO STEELERS!!!
(Does this mean Plaxico has a chance at continuing his career here?)
I`m only half-joking... I know he`s old, and his last injury seemed fairly severe for a body that age, but, I figured Cotch would still be here, and that negated any need for Plax.
does this change their thinking about Burress, or is he still just done?
    GO STEELERS!:herewego!:

Both reports were not official but were what they heard from insiders. Official is always better.

Oddly If Jerricho only plays 2 yr in Carolina ( which is possible ) he'll earn right at 5 mil. The 1st report wasn't far off.

It's still more than what we could realistically afford right now.

The Steelers did the right thing not matching the contract, a 5 year deal for a 32 year old WR no thanks.

I wish him the best of luck!

They'll sign at least 1 vet WR before its over.

The only downside is losing another solid starter and proven vet for Ben to throw to. How's it looking now that the 2 & 3 receiver are gone and the projected #2 missed so much time last year due to injuries to hid fingers of all things? Also, how we didn't get any meaningful playing time in with Moye who, as far as receivers for the Steelers, is the only returning vet other than their #1! You could count Wheaton and Brown, but they're really 2nd year guys and Wheaton missed so much time in OTA's last year, while Brown was a PS player.

I'm curious about your sources, I just read on Carolina's web site that they signed him to a 2yr deal.

Not having cotch as a reliable reciever for Ben is a mistake. We now have brown wheaton and moye. Two ofmwhichnhave not played any meaningful downs. Of course we have Heath but he is getting up there now

We better sign a veteran because things are not lookimg good as it stands now.

On the tv it said it was a 2 year contract they probably offered a lot more than the Steelers were willing to offer.

That's too general to really comment on, but it was a 5 year deal. $8.015 Mil. total. $2.25 guaranteed signing bonus.

strange, My local paper(Akron Beacon Journal), reported it as a 2 yr deal, per the Associated Press...
Regardless, I think we`re gonna miss him.
The guy from the Saints may take some of the sting outta that, tho...
Been reading good things about him...

On NBCSports on the bottom line it said Cotchery signed a 2 year deal no dollar amount was mentioned.

It's technically an 5 yr deal but the final 3 yrs are voidable. In reality its a 2 yr deal worth 5 mil. They extended out by 3 yrs ( at apprx. vet min. ) to spread out his 2.25 mil signing bonus and when he's cut after two yrs they'll have only 1.35 dead money.

They are in tight cap space issues like we are, maybe worse. we'll get another 8 mil after june 1.

Almost immediately, "sources" said it was a 2 year deal. Later it came out that it was a 5 year deal, with $3.5 Mil in year one. The final years are voidable.
