If the Steelers want to sign a veteran OLB I would take a look at Phillips, at least he's still productive and he's 3 years younger than James Harrison. He had 10 sacks 2ff 1 int with Denver last season, let him compete with Jarvis Jones to be a starter at ROLB. I'm sure Phillips has more left in the tank than Harrison does.

Bring him in for DE (where he played last season) and JH at OLB.

He'd be a good pickup, but alas... Finances don't allow such hype! Hell, there is a handful of guys (even some black n gold retreads) that would add depth, experience and bravado, to be had, and on the cheap. But even shopping at ROSS adds up!

Phillips would get obliterated at DE in the 3-4... He would be an awful fit as a 3-4 DE. I'd take him in a heartbeat at OLB though. Either of the two as a back up OLB would be perfectly fine with me, it basically comes down to whoever is cheaper.

Good point, didn't take their alignment into account.

The Free-Agent Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 3rd,2014 . Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. SackNet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, September 7th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

The problem with Phillips IMO is twofold.

First, you actually have no idea whether he works in our system or in our locker room. You don't know his demeanor well enough in the locker room to know how he exists with others or how he sees his role in helping other younger players develop. In addition, you have no idea if he can be a successful 3/4 OLB in our system. Is he a guy who can play the run and hold the edge or is he only a guy who goes balls to the wall after the QB every time.

Second, he is a guy who IMO is going to want to start. We aren't looking for a starter. We are looking for 10-15 snaps a game at most. Harrison knows our system, and I think now regrets walking away from the team last year. He learned the same lesson Foote did. It isn't always greener on the other side; sometimes it is brown and smells really bad.

I think he played in a 3/4 defense in San Diego.
