Yeah sorry about that;). I agree in a perfect scenario I would love to draft/develop young guys. There's nothing better than homegrown Steelers. I know he was dinged up his last year here but as TTF posted earlier he was injury free last year. thorn also brought up a good point about not having anyone proven playing on the right side. My biggest nightmare is something happening to one of our starters at OLB and having to rely on the lack of talent behind them. We need depth.......IDK the landscape of the NFL changes every year and I think we are running out of time with Ben. I want to be able to put our best team on the field every year even if it means relying on a few guys who may be just past their prime. Look at what we have as backups at OLB and tell me James isn't "better than what we got"

so now we are fine with just average players? I thought that is what we have been complaining about? I don't get it. I know everyone is saying as a backup but why do we need a 36 year old back up who is going to being playing on 1 year deals? his last year he, he got pushed around more than a weak kid on a playground.

I posted his numbers to point out that people are grossly exaggerating about him being washed up and as you said, BACK UP. Holly crap people, you want all pros at back up? It's 1 year, they have no one else, anyone we draft can step in next season.

This is pretty much the deciding factor for me.

If this was a few years ago, where we had promising LBers coming out of our ears, then maybe I'd feel differently. But we don't. We have Carter.

Bouchette is chiming in saying that both sides are agreeable and in no rush. Harrison knows that that the Steelers are his best shot at finishing his career in a good way and are willing to wait till after the draft to see how things shake out.

What I think that people are forgetting that this isn't an "old" football team anymore. Our only starters over 30 are Ben and Troy... that's it.* As a starting unit, we are pretty young. If we are going to get "older" why not do it with our depth players? We need vets somewhere. We will still have rookies and young guys waiting in the wings to become the main back up or starters in the future, but we need some game proven guys as well. The cool thing with Harrison is that we will only sign him for a year, and we can cut him if he proves he has no more football left to give us. This is a simple decision, bring him in and see if he can play. This wont affect how we draft OLB in this year's draft (or in any draft for that matter).

*note: We currently do not have a starting DE. Cotch also not with team. Even if Cotch is back though, we might still draft a WR in the top 2 rounds and that guy will be the #2 not Jerricho.

Except hes not. This old has been put up decent numbers playing out of position, I expect him to do even better. The guy is in phenomenal shape, works harder then anybody, first in last to leave, heaven forbid we had that kind of inspirational leader as a back up.

For him to be a back up and short yardage situations. Also to help mentor Jones. OK we all know the psycho package now imagine a QB looking at Worilds, Jones, Harrison, Timmons, and Spence/Garvin. This is a guy that knows our system and can step right in.

I expect him to be able to hit the ground running in whatever fashion remains... Not as a starter, but as a guy who has some shot left in the barrel and can explode when he spells the starters... Without much drop off. I already know the broken twig talk will be coverage, etc... But that's been my ***** for over 10 years now from LB to CB to nickel package and safety play... We either can't cover, or give to much cushion.

id rather see him come in for relief or injury, than what we already have/can't sign... The D is younger, there will be different faces at different positions, and it's not an Achilles heel type situation to have a guy who's been there and can probably cut it a hell of a lot better than his younger understudies in the interim.

if he signs for cheap, I say snatch him up! And do it now!

He was stout against the run, something we completely sucked at last year, I would expect more of that from him, I'd expect him to improve on his 25 tackles, 2 sacks and 14 hurries and 3 knock downs while playing in his natural position.

I would expect that he handles himself the same way he has his whole career. I expect that when he does see the field he will command the offensive lines full attention or he will blow up plays, this will only improve Worilds numbers and development as well as Heyward's and who ever else they put on the line and Jarvis will have two great outside linebackers to show him how to shed blocks and get to the QB in Harrison and Porter. Win/Win Situation in my book.

I am a bit concerned over something he said when he and Ike were on Total Access. He admitted that he is not squatting anywhere close to what he used to. His #1 physical asset IMO was his lower body strength. He used to drive right through tackles by getting under them and just driving with his legs. If he is no longer that strong, he's going to be a lot less effective.

I think its been pointed out already that JH does not have the strength he once had. That being said he was really good against the run in cinnci.. So lets use him in run situations only.
