    do we stay on green
or do we shift to purple closer to Easter
    or is that too liturgical

it does create more color commentary

I missed James in 13' and the idea of a 1yr. deal to have him back retiring as Black & Gold would be awesome! But we need to look at the big picture, down the road if you will.. needing positions filled with strong fresh bodies for team longevity . Fading out the old - bringing in the new is something the organization has been neglecting. We need to get back to Steeler football and that's winning championships.. that's our signature!!

maybe they can sign him to a 1 day deal, but they dont have the money to sign guys just so they can retire a Steeler.

he has just never had to play a full season as a starter. as for carter, we were saying the same thing about worilds until the last half of the season last year. maybe the light finally goes on. sly is not on the roster as of now either DC.

I was hoping we'd find a better option in free agency, but I can live with bringing him back for depth at the bargain price we did. I've been going back and forth between WR and CB in the first round of the draft but I think I'm leaning more and more toward taking a CB.

  8. Christ, maybe we can bring back Greg Lloyd. Wait can Christ play OLB?

I do believe Greg Lloyd was cut by the Colts last season so he is available. Might offer more upside than Sly and Carter.

I don't get why is it so hard for some people to believe Harrison can't play anymore. I would rather take a chance on a young and eager player with something to prove, who also can play special teams not some older guy just looking for one last paycheck.

I hear you and basically that's what the agenda would be but not sure the Rooney's would adhere to a sign-and-retire though several NFL players have been given this type of closure via retirement. Often wondered when negotiation failed what the atmosphere was really like between James and the Steelers /team executive. We just know the monies didn't cross the table. We need to drop the notion that Debo will return as a Steeler whether it be 1 day or 1 yr. ;)

I was really hoping that was gonna be your answer. So now what makes the Harrison situation so much different? Did you see how horrible Ike was last year? He is still making a hell of a lot more money than Harrison would get. So now that the news is out he wants to come back to us he's ripe for the picking. Maybe some people who have totally shot down the notion of his return can let go of some of their bitterness that he left us. No one can say without a doubt how much he has left in the tank based on a year he played in a totally different situation. The contract can easily be put together as a low risk ,high reward signing. He would be providing the same insurance as Ike Taylor....

I kinda figured you were setting me up, lol. I didn't exactly give a ringing endorsement to the re-signing of Taylor, but he took a huge paycut and that at least made it more palatable. I think Harrison has had more injury issues than Ike and his last year in Pittsburgh he had back and knee problems which greatly limited his performance. I really didn't see anything from his one season in Cincy that would lead me to believe that he's past those issues. If the Steelers re-sign him, so be it. I'd just like to see them sign/draft/develop the younger guys rather than continually reverting back to signing their own has-beens.

I know what I see on the field and that's lack of production, and a guy who will be 36 by next season.

This thread is the very embodiment of the old joke:

How many Pittsburghers does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer: 3, one to change the bulb, two to reminisce about how great the old one was.

Suppose JH has one good year left, what does that get you? 10-6 at best, elimination at Denver, and retardation of Jones, or no playing time to know he's a bust.. Does he gave two yrs left, I doubt it. But the way you find out find out is by experiencing his inferior play until it's absolutely clear he's done.

Get younger, get faster. Milking even the best possible 2014 out if James Harrison won't help this team, at least not very much.

So you propose that they get the best possible outcome out of a fourth year player who only really lights it up from one side and a second year player who you already think maybe a bust and draft a rookie who quite possibly wont be able to play the game at the professional level yet all in the name of allowing player progression? So instead of putting together a winning team with quality depth players you are more willing to gamble on player development and wait for three years down the road when these guys blossom? Heck might as well cut Ben, Heath, Troy and possibly Hayward because it is a waste if salary room to have them on a team that wont peak till 2017

Ok. , let me clarify. Expecting to get much, if anything from a 36 yr old LB is asking a lot. But if Harrison was the same guy who made his name in Dallas or with NYG or with New England, and was a FA of diminished skills, begging for a job, most people here would pass, and would snicker at the thought of signing the old has been,

Well, the age is about the only thing right, other then that, you're both wrong, I posted JH production from last year in another thread and wasn't bad at all.

Lets atleast get him in to training camp (Vet min) to see what he does have, then if the coaches
found out he has nothing left, cut him.
This should be a no brainer for the Steelers.
Wait KC/MT our running the show here.
