I'm hoping the community can help with some guidance here. I asked the administrator if it was ok to post this question, before doing so because I didn't want to violate the community guidelines. He gave me the ok. I have an NFL Wilson football from the 1970's that has over 20 Steelers signatures from greats: Bradshaw, Swann, Stallworth, Greene, Ham, Lambert, Russell, Harris, etc. It has been authenticated by James Spence. I have had it for over 35 years and don't particularly want to sell it, but my family has some mounting medical bills that need to paid and selling the ball could help alot. I posted it on ebay, but it didn't get a great response. Any suggestions of stores and/or websites or even someone here who might be interested, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That would be my thought, but he said he didn't have luck there.

Man I gotta start reading the entire post! Problem with some of the memorabilia is if you buy when the player is hot you almost never get back what you paid for it?

maybe i can help you... depends on where you live.. we promote the largest sports memorabilia shows in the midwest.. clostest one to the burgh is in cincinnati april 25 26 27... 150 dealers there to buy sell trade sports memorabilia... web site www.cincycardshows.com .... all the details are there.. there is a big show in the burg at robert morris college.. we dont promote it but it is a pretty good size show.. i have no clue when it takes place but you could call robert morris college and ask them or maybe google robert morris sports show.. if it is JSA certified that is one of the 3 or 4 best COAs you can have so you did good so far.. remember it all comes down to price..

100000000% correct .. sports memorabilia is like the stock market.. prices rise and fall.. mostly fall .. unless you love it .. dont buy it for an investment (and i sell it and do athlete signings for a living)

I have seen similar balls sell for $2,000, but I'm not expecting close to that amount, hoping to get $1,000.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. I'm in Maryland so cincy would be about an 8 hour drive, though it does sound like a great show. Yes, I read about the show at Robert Morris, it's May 16-18. That might be my best option if I don't find a buyer before that.

    All too true.

I've collected Steelers autographs since 1974 and have thousands of signed items in my collection. I've sold duplicates and spares over the years, and done well with mid range/low end stuff. However, I have found that, especially on ebay, people either are looking for a bargain and simply don't want to spend $100+ on ANY autographed item (and I can't blame them).

YES TO THIS.. as the price goes up the number of buyers goes down (like the housing market) .. to get 1000 for that ball.. anywhere .. is NOT gonna happen.. sorry but its not

well the JSA COA increses the value by 100% .. it doubles the price but i think he said 20 signatures.. a baseball team ball needs 22+ signatures to be a true team ball.. a FB needs 30-35 or more to be a true team signed ball... and it has to have the big boys.. but a 20 signature football is a nice item but not really a team ball.. and i have no clue how is on the ball to give a value.. if it were my ball i'd start at $500 and negotiate down from there.. and im sure he paid $75 to get it certified by JSA..

I counted a total of 33 signatures, but JSA just lists it as 25+. It has all the heavyweights, Bradshaw, Stallworth, Swann, Harris, Ham, Lambert, Greene, Blount, and other key players like Russell, Bleier, Holmes and White. The JSA # is X56588, you want to look at it. The letter of authenticity for the number of signatures cost me $150. Thanks again for the information.

THATS ONE OF THE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH JSA.. they used to set up at our cincinnati show.. we now have sgc set up instead.. one problem with JSA is everyone pays a different fee.. we might pay $25 or $50 for that.. many may pay $75 for that letter of authenticity... you paid $150.... they charge what they think they can get from people.. but we spent $15,000 with JSA in 2012 (our final year with them) so we deserved some type discount... should we get that same letter for $25 or $50 and you pay $150? NO... so its hard for someone like you that gets one item authenticated for $150 to sell at the same price professional sellers sell at... so you star out in about a $100 hole when you go to sell something over what dealers pay... its a game.. and its hard for customers to win it .. just being honest...

I see your point. JSA's regular fee schedule varies depending on the number of signatures, 25 and over is $150, I think for a one signature piece it starts at $35, but that also depends on the signer....some signatures are more. JSA has all the leverage really, they know a piece will sell for alot more if it's authenticated. Oh well, I'll try my best to sell it probably at the Robert Morris show. Again thanks for sharing all this information, it's been very helpful.
