I just watched a highlight video that his management company put out. He definitely isn't afraid of contact.

Was looking forward to seeing the shark start. Oh well, another young talent that will have to wait on the bench....

Was feeling a little left out of the conversation so thought I'd try to add some value. :smiley1:

I was watching some show on espn the other day. I think the insiders show and one of the guys mentioned him as being a player to watch. he said if Carolina lost him it would hurt their defense because he set the tone for them. I think this is a major upgrade. if he as speed like they say he does then maybe it will cut out the 80 yard qb draws

He's got the physical talent, he produced when he got the playing time, he doesn't appear to be any kind of problem player, and the price is fine. I just wonder why we didn't feel that he was worth $1.5m last year.

Unfortunately this means another year of Shamarko Thomas "learning the ropes".

What about Shmarko? Does this mean that they aren't satisfied with his progress in his rookie year? Or is it merely stockpiling talent for a few years down the road when TP calls it quits?

We need depth too, I see Shamarko getting reps to spell Troy more so than years past.

Not to mention in the "new" NFL 3 safeties on the field is pretty common.

I believe they think of Thomas as a SS?

Well, the signing does one thing if nothing else....eliminates the need to draft a safety in round 1. We still have a lot of work to do at LB and Dline.

It seems like a good signing now we have some depth at safety, with Allen and Thomas as the backups. I think drafting a safety is less of a priority now unless it's in the later rounds.

sounds like we need to teach him how to tackle.. his missed tackles % is very high.

No DOUBT! I still want Gilbert in the first. I would also love to get Desir in the 3rd or 4th. Taylor is here for 1 more year. Allen may be gone after this year. Gay, IMO, shouldn't be starting. If we carry 10 DBs, IMO we still have 3 openings. Allen, Troy, Shamarko, Mitchell, Ike, Gay, and Allen. That leaves 3 openings. Draft a couple of guys (Gilbert and Desir) and keep a special teamer.

I may still be on the fence on the signing, I am, however, excited about the sub package with 3 safeties. Troy, shark, mitchel, roaming around are 2 big hitters and a pro bowler.

Mitchell on a blitz with shark and Troy rotating. I like the idea already.

So what are the "experts" (when it comes to the cap/contracts/etc) opinions on what the guaranteed money will be for this deal? 10-15 mil or more in the 7-10 mil range?

Its funny when you think about Clark's first contract he got 7 mil of 4 years (not sure what was guaranteed of that but still)...oh how times have changed in just a short 8 years, haha.

Ryan Clark spent two seasons with the Giants and one in Washington before he found his place in Pittsburgh so even though Mitchell struggled early on in Oakland there's still a chance he'll be good here. Time will tell.
