I know we have a thread for free agency talk, but I think news of new Steelers signings deserve their own thread. The Steelers are signing former Panthers safety Mike Mitchell. Mitchell has played both FS and SS with the Panthers.

A young, tall, fast safety that can create big hits? I think yes!

Now let's get some more players like this!

Knew they'd be making a bigger splash then usual :yeehaw:

Still some risk involved as last season was his best by far. I think Lake will be good for him though.

    Now go get a LB!

Early active in FA. Where has this been for years? I guess the cap space helped.

That means Ryan Clark will not be back. I wouldn't mind him on the cheap

I'm not sure how I feel about this signing. According to an article on SteelersDepot he whiffed on 19 tackles last year.

I didn't watch Carolina enough last year to have a feel for this signing one way or another. This was the guy who was over drafted by Al Davis 5 years ago, and then did absolutely zip in 4 seasons in Oakland. He clearly had a rebound season in Carolina, but will he fit in a new system, or was that his perfect fit?

And I read somewhere that Earl Thomas had like 15.

Not a huge deal at this point.

This is very similar to Clarks original signing...Clark was only a 1-2 yr starter before coming to Pittsburgh and he turned out quite well.

I've read that he has some issues in coverage that were masked because of Carolina's front seven. Overall this could turn out to be a great signing, just need a couple more pieces on Defense and were contenders!

Dennis Allen raved about him when he took over and implemented a new defense.

According to Schefter, this is a 5 year, $25 Mil deal.

I heard he was decent in coverage (and blitzing) but struggled at times against the run.

If he can play as well as he did in Carolina last year and continue to improve that will be cheap?

Looks like he ranked 35th among safeties last year, 10 spots higher than R. Clark

It seems like a lot of money for a safety that isn't big play guy. I think he only has six interceptions in five years. I was hoping for more of a ball hawk to replace Ryan Clark.

Thought it was 5 years, 4 with the Raiders and 1 with Carolina?
