The Steelers have $7 million to spend on free agents starting today! Hopefully we fill some holes. I would like to see us get someone that I actually know, not just practice squad backups.

Also, we rid ourselves of Evander Hood today!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he was the most overrated, overweight piece of rubbish on the team (Mike Adams is a close second), so I am quite pleased that he will most likely be gone.

Sanders will also be gone which pleases me, as he clearly showed Wallace-esq effort last season.

Oh yea Woodley is gone today too! To all the people who wanted the Steelers to trim the fat (perhaps literally), after last seasons poor performance (thought the offense got better at the end of the season...thanks Ben and Bell), the time has finally come!

No I like our coaches including Haley. I have always complained about Evander Hood being terrible though...you can look through my old posts.

I also grew tired of Woodley, though I always thought he was overrated as Harrison made him look good by demanding constant double-teams.

Mike Adams is the other player on my list that needs to go.

Outside of those players, I really don't greatly dislike any other player or any coach.

Hood was in excellentshape that was never his problem. All things considered he pprobably worked out harder then just about everyone on this team.

Hood is not terrible. He's an average lineman that's shown improvement each year. Fat? Not even close. Who do you think they're going to replace hood with? And what about depth? The old saying careful what you wish for comes to mind.

Has there been any comments from the Steelers FO that we will not try to sign Ziggy?

I think Ziggy would be better suited in a Tampa 2.

I'm worried we are getting rid of these guys, but have no depth on the defense to replace them?

We need to find an OLB and DE in the draft now.

I think they are pretty high on Arnfelt but from practice squad to starter is tough. They are going to have to bring back hood or da beard

I thought they were still making dumb moves, may be mistaken, but, it's still the Raiders so I'm still going to pick on them :taunt:

Hood should only be back if it is very, very cheap. He is an average Dlineman. He doesn't do anything exceptional, but he also doesn't typically make major mistakes either. He is consistently average. I can accept that as long as we are working toward guys like Arnfelt and Williams starting to play a role.

Hood is better then he gets credit for, can't cut everyone, have enough holes to fill.

Mark Davis isn't any better. Look for the Raiders to be moving soon anyway.

It bothers me that we keep sticking with the same antiquated D philosophy that the recent players haven't exactly flourished in instead of a Tampa 2 type system. . Perhaps in a different system Hood could be really good in Pittsburgh.

I'm fine with ziggy staying, and as sorry as the raiders are... Well they've certainly had our number lately! Sure would like to see that change!

when it comes to out of division games, the raiders, cowboys, 9ers, and pats just plain piss me off when we lose to them pricks!

Yep. Unfortunately he was never able to translate jumping on 40 inch high boxes to on field production. He'd probably be better served spending more of that time working on his technique.

Exactly. The consensus on Ziggy among sane people and non-PFF lackies is that he's a solid but unspectacular starter. It's one thing to play an unspectacular, solid starter if a stud is behind him on the bench. It's another if you've got an UDFA with 2 NFL snaps and a 7th round draft pick with 0 NFL snaps and barely any practice, coming from a DII school. Oh and there's a torn ACL in there somewhere, too. You can't just ditch your starters in favor of what are essentially projects with a high probability of fizzling out. I don't care how strong your gut instinct is about these guys - I like Arnfelt a lot too - you have to look at the facts. Anything those guys give us will be a positive. They are not expected to make it. If either of them never took another snap in the league ever again, it would not even be reported on TV.

Keep going with Williams and Arnfelt, and even through another guy into the mix. But don't just assume they will pan out when - let's face it - they are long shots to begin with. Long shots we like, but to put them up with the lowly, unspectacular, solid Ziggy is still a big projection. They are not in his league yet. If/when they get there, fine. Go with who you like. But right now we have no one that we know can start for us. Ziggy we know can hold down the fort. It's irresponsible to put the team into a position where they have no starter - and it would seriously bind us come draft day, a day when it's nice to be flexible. I say we sign him to a 2-3 year deal and let him start until he is actually beaten out by someone else (Arnfelt, Williams, a draft pick, whoever).

I'd be fine taking a DE as high as the 3rd this year, if it was the BPA. But it's still lower on my list than CB, LB, and WR. I'm hoping for a medium-term project around the 5th. If we lose Ziggy, it goes way up the list, and something else has to get bumped down or off.

I will be shocked if some 4-3 team doesn't sign him.
